Stuck between 335i and S5
I'm having a hard time deciding between the two.
The way I look at it is: 335: Better resale value, better fuel economy, better transmission and overall driving experience. S5: More exclusive, better fit and finish, faster. I guess I need to see the S5 in person to really decide. I like this pic though. |

Tough choice, but the 335i is lighter and can really be modded for little money ($1,300 a la PROcede ), which would blow the S5 away.
BTW -- the S5 will NOT be faster than the 335i...the mags say the S5 will run 0-60mph in 5.1-5.3sec., and stock 335i's are running 0-60mph in 4.8-5.0 sec. The S5 is still a heavy N/A car with a less than optimal front biased weight distribution.

S5 is badass...but your going to be paying alot more....when you could put that money into modding the 335 and you'll be right up there in hp for alot cheaper.

Like sflgator said, doubt the S5 will be faster, but it will sound faster.
Agree with RIP-A4 also. If you've got the money and want exclusivity, go for the Audi. I think it will look a little better personally and interior will be superior. Didn't Audi solve the weight distribution on this car? |

It's not faster...
and if it is a bit quicker stock have fun against a PROcede 335i. Shame Audi dropped the FI from the B5 on the B6+.

I'd say wait until you can sit in one, I can usually tell within about 10 seconds whether a particular car is even a possibility for me just by how I feel in the driver's seat on the showroom floor.

Yeah, and it's funny b/c I hear so many S4 drivers say that their S4 doesn't feel as fast as a 335i; with the same engine, I wonder if this will be true for the S5? The only things the S5 may have on the 335i are a meaner, V8 exhaust note, a nicer interior, and the DSG tranny; all for an additional $8k-$10k more than the 335i...I think I'd rather have an '08 M3 for that price tag.

I've driven a lot of S4's; they aren't as fast as a stock 335i. It's probably close (I think 1/4 mile times are really close), but I'd be really surprised if the S5 is faster. It will be FSI, which is nice.

Well... If the S5 is anywhere near the price of an M3, then the M3 is a no brainer.
I see the M3 being mid 60's moderately equiped and the S5 55k moderately equiped and I draw the line at 55k for a car. |

My 335i is almost fully loaded (but not quite...didn't get Active Steering, the Rear Sunshade, Cold Weather Package, PDC, and the iPod integration kit) and the MSRP was $53k. The S5 similarly equipped will be >$60K, closer to the M3.

This might be a dumb question but is the S5 even out yet? Or is that supposed to happen soon?

The '08 Audi S5 arrives this fall, and the A5 a few months later. The RS5 will arrive later in '08, maybe as an '09 MY.

The Audi resale value is crap. Of course, you're asking a bunch of BMW guys for an opinion, naturally, we're going to side with the Bimmer. The coupe is freak'in awesome.

Tough call, I love Audi's "5 series" but I'm a sucker for factory turbo's. That was really the deciding factor. I'm still going to drive an S5, since I've decided to wait until my 335i will be an '08 model I need some time to kill and maybe the women might want one. Or at least that's what my excuse will be..
However if Audi confirms the RS5 will come with a twin turbo V8 and not a NA V10, then I might have more thinking to do. Otherwise I've always prefered BMW's to Audi, MB or Lexus, and the 335i is a beautiful, classy, potentially M3 embarrassing car. |
