Review: New 4-LED 12 Watt Cree Angel Eyes from HPB installed

This is my first review so please forgive me and sorry but all i have are quick iphone pics

I ordered these new Cree 4 LED angel eyes from Top Gear Solutions.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=693437

They arrived in only a few days. Packed nicely.

Marked Cree near bulbs:

I took a picture yesterday of the 2 bulb china made AE bulbs that were currently installed:

Taking out the other bulbs was a nightmare. They fit lousy going in and had to be held in place with electrical tape. Caused skinned knuckles installing and removing. Passenger side was a nightmare as it would not release from socket:

Old set. I would recommend you avoid these. Don't remember the brand. Bought from a booth at an auto show by HIDDIRECTONLINE.COM they just fit lousy although they worked fine for a little over a thousand miles.

I have driver side new angel eye installed vs old:

Went in nicely. Fit snug as stock bulb. No horror show

Old:

New:

Both installed:

So far, so good. No error codes...

Definitely looks brighter than the bulbs I had. Paid the same, $85.00 for each set. So far I'm very happy with the new set. Sorry I did not have stock vs led comparisons.

Are you sure you installed these properly (turned all the way)? It seems the new bulbs are brighter for sure but seeing it has 4 less each side vs your old set up of 2 less, light output should be more even... Turning it in all the way should give you your outer rings back unless it's your camera settings and proximity which doesn't seem to be the case...

Definitely turned all the way. Could be the pics from the iPhone. Inner rings are direct lit while outer rings have maybe two fiber optic pickup points.

HIDs are off. That is the brightness of the angel eyes. I hopped in the car before snapping these pics and saw that the AEs were actually illuminating my garage door when I started it. Was about 7:30 pm at the time and sky was still a little dark from rain

Thanks for the review they look great. Do you mind if we borrow some of your pics? People normally prefer 3rd party reviews as opposed to our personal pictures.

Anyone with the 12w LED wants to compare theirs with mine? The 10W, and see if it makes a difference? I'm in CNJ

My buddies shop actually sells the same setup, but 10w for 65$, so i want to see if its worth upgrading for 15$ lol

I understand what you're saying, but I doubt that the outer ring brightness in these pics are actually what you see. Typically if the lighting is washed out and the inner ring is not distingushable, the exposure in the pic is longer than it should be. Also, it's hard to caputre the true brightness of lights in pictures - all you can do are comparisons, and the inner is much brighter than the outer. I expect the last pic of the first set to be similar to what you would see in darker light - the inner rings are still distinguishable.

However, they do look like one of the brighter options for the E92. Nice!

They look the same in person. Pure white. There seemed to be a slightly blue tint when they were reflecting on my white garage door. They match the factory xenons well.

Exactly. I was not able to get a pic where the inner rings were not washed out. They do not appear that way to the eye. They also appear to flicker when you view them through the iPhone 4s camera but again, not visible to the eye.

Just so you guys know without custom LED's fitted into the housing (like OSS) it's nearly impossible to get 50/50 distribution between inner and out, the flaw is in the OEM angel eyes, not the LED's.

We have some ideas for the future but nothing set in stone yet.

Thanks for the review.

Cree LEDs FTW! Although their share price has taken a beating due to competition from low cost competitors, here is an example where the quality of their products clearly shows through. Looks great!

Shouldn't be a concern they run cooler then stock halogens. There is also a heat sink that is pushing heat away from the AE housing.
