9/1 ED: Where are you staying?

Hey guys, let's see where we all are staying. Maybe add to the ED thread vs continuing this or not?
I'm staying at the Munich Marriott out of habit (BMW used to include your stay here with ED and pay 1 air ticket).
Less than 2 mi from Welt.

We arrive 9/1 for two nights. I have not booked air or hotels. How is the Marriott in terms of cost / property niceness / location (other than Welt proximity)? Is is a decent base of operations for a couple of days of Munich tourism?

Not to threadjack, but if you or others have suggestions for places to stay near Nurburgring and/or near any cool Alpine passes, I would appreciate it. I am debating whether to "play by ear" versus map out nightly hotels along route.

Likely the Sofitel Dorint Munich - one of the best hotels I've stayed at in the world. 20m to the U-Bahn. Indoor garage. Also a phenomenal pool.

I tend to stay at the Westin. I like it because there is free street parking outside. Those tight parking spaces underground make me nervous.

Although I had to delay my M5 pickup from the original 9/3, I would like to get some recommendation especially from those who have done ED before. I tend to just go with Amex travel and they recommended two - Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munich and
Mandarin Oriental, Munich. But knowing Amex, I am sure those hotels are 5 stars and expensive and since I would rather be out driving than staying at the hotel and only use a room to shower and sleep, any recommended 4 star or below would do. Any suggestion would be much apprciated.

In that realm I'd suggest the Hotel Cocoon (right on the same subway line as the Welt btw) and Motel One (there are a few). Both basic, but new, and fairly cool. Not sure if either has a garage though in case that's something you want.

Marriott is good and central. The value is particularly good. I am a Plat with Marriott so that is a factor and again, familiar to me.

Some may not agree about the quality of the location of the Marriott vs something closer to the Hauptbahnof or the Marianplatz. But you can get it on priceline for some incredibly cheap prices. And there is plenty of street parking around it.

I stay at the Kempenski, a great hotel and downtown close to where you want to be if you are staying a couple days.

How about Four Points Sheraton Munich at Olympiapark quite close to the Welt? Does anybody have any experience with this Hotel?

Anyone have any experience with the Leonardo Royal Hotel Munich? I saw a ED trip thread where someone stayed here and looked nice. Anyone have any experience with this hotel?

Not a local expert and certainly are nicer and potentially more convenient, depending on what you want to do. I liked it because:
1. stayed there before with ED
2. not planning on hanging around Munich ( want to go driving). Done before.
3.very reasonable ( trying to preserve SOME of my ED savings, with wife......)
4. 2.7km from Welt
5. Can get familiar food in a pinch (no flames pls)
6. Walk to underground.
7. As plat. I get free upgrades :-)

I've stayed here. It's not a luxury hotel, it's more a three star property. It's clean, the rooms are large (although maybe I just got upgraded due to my SPG Platinum status). I slept well there. The bathroom was small, and the shower was in the bathtub.

Generally I would not stay here unless the other places are sold out because I am accustomed to more luxury oriented properties, but there is nothing wrong with it for the price. It's a viable backup if everything else is sold out.

Since I will likely be using SPG points again, I will stay at either Le Meridien or at Westin. Both are nicer properties.

I would have stayed at a Hyatt if there was one in Munich as I have a Hyatt Gold passport account but I searched and there was none. I wonder if the Westin you mentioned honors Hyatt's Gold passport as in some cities do. I do not belong to the Starwood Preferred Guest program.

I looked at the hotel prices using Hotels.com to compare and it seems that the prices are different depending on the month/season? Take for instance Mandarin Oriental that Amex recommended charges $556/night on average first week of September, however, on the week I will be in Munich a month later the average nightly rate becomes $848, Wow.

Is that the Residence Inn by Marriott Munich City East? That's the only one that shows up in Hotels.com and Travelocity for the week that I will be there and both list the room rates no where near Euro 109. The quote I got was $362/per night avg rate.

Yes I see it if I put in an earlier date but with the date 10/1 - 10/4 it does not show up at Marriott.com. I guess they don't have any available rooms for those dates that I will be there to pick up the M5.
