remote fobs distance

Can someone tell me what is the expected distance for the keys to work?

both my keys work only 2-3 meters away from the car, that's it.

all my other cars can have 20-30 easily.

is this by design?

i don't like this at all. example: i forgot to lock the car and realized just before i entered home depot. was less than 10 meters away. usually this is not an issue for any other car i've owned before. nope here i had to go back and almost touch the car as you said.

just stupid.

i used to be able to lock/unlock from 30+ meters
i ended up having to eventually replace the battery, and i've been through 2 and i've never gotten the same range as the original battery

Place the remote under you chin pressing against your skin like you're holding yourself at gunpoint. Then press the lock button. I find this trick can double your distance. Something to do with your body acting as an antenna.

BMW remote, BMW Comfort Access is all BS. Changed batt and it's as cranky as ever. Sometimes mine will only work after repeated attempts at a distance of 2'. A load of crap.

Never tested it for distance but I can open/lock car from inside the house while the car is down on the driveway maybe 4 car lengths total distance from the fob.

Don't knock it- it actually works fella!
Although not so much on my CA fob, it did on every other car I owned. Looks silly, but it achieves the purpose.

'08 128i and ;07 E91, both with Comfort Access. The regular remote functions work from anywhere from about 100 feet and the CA functions work from within 8 feet - exactly as specified by BMW.

The only CA problems have been due to either a worn fob battery or a discharged car battery.

Don't you have to have a contract with BMW Assist for this to work?
