Currently I have a 2008 E92 without navigation. This is the first car I have owned without navigation, and honestly, it's killing me not having it. I am horrible with directions, hate portable units on my windshield, and the iPhone navigation is terrible. I do not think I want a flip up screen, or that in dash navi that is made for our cars because the reviews suck. Do I have any other options or has anyone done a complete swap and put the stock navigation in? Only thing I could think of doing was contacting some junk yards I guess and see if they have any wrecked cars with navi? Any help would be great. Thanks

If it's possible, it's probably more trouble than it's worth. The dash shape is different for cars with Nav.

Dash with Nav...

Without Nav...

You're going to be over your head on a retrofit since it includes the top dash and screen, data unit etc. There's a lot more than just Navigation in the IDrive unit, so getting it all wired and Coded is going to be a monster project.

That's why I was thinking if I found a wrecked one, take the dash and navigation unit out, and get a coder to code it for me.

From the work and cost involved, I've always thought it made more sense to just trade your car in for one with nav. But if you can find the parts cheap, and know how to do the install, then you could do it.

Custom fit one of these units
Kenwood Excelon DNX9990HD
Kenwood Excelon DNX6990HD

Not factory but easier than trying to do the whole dash.
As long as you do not have Logic7 you can do the retrofit.

Well you've sized it up pretty well and you're aware of the tasks ahead, so I'd say go for it. You can always price it all out before you commit and decide if it's worth it in the end.
