245 versus 225 f30's

So why would BMW not choose the 245's as the standard? Any reasons why I should not change to 245?

Why would you want to? What characteristics are you wanting to change about the car? I assume you are talking front and rear on the same rims?

I would suggest the 255 is the section BMW find gives the best feel from the chassis for the average driver. The typical chassis BMW driver's aim for.

I know I wouldn't want wider tires on the same fromt rim, as steering would be less precise, not as sharp on turn in and likey much more corrupted. I can't see the car being as nimble on fitting wider tires on the same rims.

Honestly it's really more for the look than anything else and if I can get some added grip then all the better. Great advice though on the rims. I think I will look at 19 or 20 on 255 or keep my 18's on 245.

Thanks

I wasn't very happy when I figured out the sport sedan runs the same size all around. I think the staggard fitment makes a BMW.

I would say the reason they ran the same size is to cut cost and for easier inventory management.

It is funny that people comment negatively on the square setup on the f30. Typically you will see track drivers complain about the staggered setup because it causes more understeer. We are always trying to find a tire/wheel combo that will allow us to run same sizes front and rear, adding front grip without taking away too much rear grip.

Fair enough, but keep in mind that the //M series always have staggered setups for a reason. Call it safety(more understeer), or call it more traction.

I'm a tad familiar with track and driftdays so to speak.

If you want a playable car , put on 255 up front and 225s at the back, whatever.

IF BMW should have a 245 square setup I might have chosen that one, but 225 square is just way too tiny for a 335i imo.

All my former 3 series had staggerde setups...

Cheers

Track driver's would also complain about OE 225mm tires on a 3400 Lb car as well though.

Square setups are typically sought after to maximize track performance but I don't think BMW went with the OE size it did for this reason. I'd say the complaints are valid, but only from a subjective aesthetic viewpoint.

The OE non-staggered setup would be cheaper (half the part numbers for wheels and half the part numbers for tires). Not sure if this was the reasoning, but could have been a factor. To me, a 3-Series doesn't need staggered wheels in the most basic form; that's what options & aftermarket are for
