Head-Up Display blurry/ghosting picture

Hi,

I took delivery of my new F30 yesterday and the Head-Up Display looks odd. The picture is blurry, not sharp at all, it seems to be showing ghosting. I don't think this is normal.

I tried all the adjustment settings but to no avail.

Any thoughts what I could check before I bring it back to the dealer?

Thanks

I assume that you're not using polarized sunglasses....

I hope this doesn't sound sarcastic, but did you try to clean the area on the windscreen where the HUD image is reflected with a microfiber or other lint free cloth?

I was wondering if the 'projector' part of the HUD comes from the factory with a plastic film over it for protection and the dealer hadn't removed it?

I found out about the polarized lens issue on my test drive. I wear prescription glasses and sunglasses, now its kinda funny, get in the with glasses get out with sunglasses and switch, but its the only way to see the HUD.

This sounds very plausible.

I checked for a protection film but there is none. And yes, the windshield is clean (new car).

I read somewhere that the front window glas needs to have a special film inbetween the two glass plates to prevent ghosting images. Maybe I have the wrong glass in my window.

I guess I will have to talk to the dealer.

Is it blurry at night also? If not then it's your polarized lenses. I have two pair of sun glasses, one polarized and one not. Makes big difference.

I am not wearing any sunglasses. I wear normal glasses but they are not polarized. And taking them off doesn't make any difference.

I guess you've already tried adjusting the height and rotation of the display via iDrive? Moving the projector might pop it back into focus. If not, sounds like a dealer visit but I'd be surprised if BMW Q.A. would have let through a HUD equipped car with the wrong windscreen glass (although stranger things have happened).

Look at another car on the lot with HUD. Even a 5 series. Pretty much the same HUD.
