ordered 10/23 - still no production # or date, wtf?

Title says it all. Placed factory order for 330i w/deposit on 10/23. Was told a week later that a production number was "about a week away". Was subsequently told that production may slip into January with a February delivery date, but stay tuned, trying to avoid that. Tonight I emailed my sales guy asking for an update, and was told "The order is currently waiting for an opening so it can be filled. This could take a little longer. I will keep you informed as we get information."

What gives? I can understand if I missed catching an "open slot" when I ordered, and read here that there's only 1 week of production in December, but should it be taking this long to get a production number & build date?

Well if you really did miss Dec. production then you won't get a production # until end of Nov./beginning of Dec. for a January production slot.

Production #'s are usually released a month in advance.

it took my dealer like a couple minutes to give me a production #, but its going to take almost 3months to get here.
you might want to check other dealers, maybe your dealer didn't even order the car for u....

Seems like a long time from what I've seen on this board. Maybe I just got lucky, but I placed my order on the 26th, had a production number two days later and production was completed on the 8th, a day ahead of schedule. It is now on its way from the factory to the port.

Dealers can trade allocations with other dealers. I would assume that your dealer has used their allotment for the year and they are not trying to trade with another dealer. That is why you are having to wait. My dealer was in the same situation, however they called another dealer while I was sitting there and instantly I had a car ready for me. You need to press them to trade allocations with another dealer. It can be any dealer anywhere in the country. So there is one out there to be had. Be firm with them, or find somebody who can fill your request. By the way my vehicle is already finished in production just waiting for a boat. I placed my order on Oct 27th!!
