Was washing and polishing my wife's 2010 Audi Q5 (Lava Grey) and noticed compared to the MG of my F30 the lustre and the depth of colour was better in the Audi. There are more reflective metallic bits the catch the light more in the Q5 and I think that is part of it. Perhaps, also the Lava Grey is a shade darker than the MG.

In isolation the MG is fine, but sitting next to the Q5 the Q5 has the better looking paintwork.

Do others have any opinions?

Is Lava Gray one of the "Pearl" colors, or is it just a regular metallic finish? Because if it is a "pearl" color that would explain the differences.

Maybe its just me but Audi's seem to only look really good when they are black, where as BMWs look really good in dozens of colors.

BMW's paint is comparable with other mass produced modern cars.

You're spot on Lava Grey Is A pearl effect finish whereas MG isn't. Indeed it answers my question. Hmmmm how about a pearl effect MG??

Yeah. No BMW would be caught dead next to an Audi so no one will ever notice the difference.
