Thoughts on M335i
What are your guys thoughts on an M335i coming out soon? What would you like to see (be realistic)? How much more would you be willing to pay?
Personally, I would buy an M335i over a 335i if they offered the 320hp/330tq engine with an optional double-clutch transmission. Oh and please get rid of all the unnecessary badges. Edit: I just went to BMW's website and built a 2012 335i coupe and 2012 335is coupe (the way I'd want them) and the price difference is only $4,000 |

Personally, I dont think anyone should have to pay another dime for 20 more horsepower. The f30 is no more powerful than the last generation, so they obviously decided that this generation was going to have no more power. In my opinion, a M335i would be a money grab....either buy a 335i or a M3

Not just that.. The M335i is basically the new 'is' version for the F30 platform.
The 335is came with the extra horsepower and torque, 370lb-ft tq over boost feature, BMW performance exhaust, a unique body kit, 313 style rims, upgrade cooling system, N54 engine (not so much an upgrade but a nice bonus), DCT gearbox as well as a sporty rear diffuser... Now I do not think the extra coin is worth it for what the 'is' comes with but... It's not 4 thousand dollars for 20 more horses ...

It isn't.The current 335is uses the N54. The M335i will more than likely use the same upgraded N55 that is in the M135i. Then again BMW is supposed to unveil a new line of engines soon (Paris Auto Show?), so it may be an upgraded version of that.

Like the people above said, it's more than just power. It comes with a double-clutch transmission, better cooling, performance exhaust, performance grills, black mirrors, etc.
It would cost you more than $4,000 to turn a 335i into a 335is; assuming you go the BMW Performance route, not aftermarket. Also, think about depreciation. 330Ci ZHPs fetch a hefty premium over all other E46s. |

If you don't want badges when you order the car from the factory, tell them you want factory option 320 (badge deletion). Did this on my 335i xdrive

I've seen cars debadged from the factory, but my problem is with the side "335is" badges, the "335is" badge in the gauges, and the "335is" in the trim... It has more badges than an M3.

There is a 135iS as well, and it costs a good bit more than a 135i with Msport. Not worth it. Also, with as good as the ZF sport AT is, a DCT becomes sort of pointless. The sport AT doesn't have any of the potential take off issues, stuttering and stalling, that some DCT owners have experienced. Shifting is just as fast, and down shifts are even quicker than DCT, as the ZF sport AT can skip gears on mutli-gear downshifts. BMW might offer the 7spd DCT on the couple models to create a greater differentiation, but I don't see a good reason for it especially on an "iS" sedan variant. An "iS" variant would have to have more power, adaptive suspension, VSS, Msport brakes, sport exhaust, all standard and then offer something cosmetically different than the Msport sedan, different wheels likely. After all, other than the power, all those things can be added to the 3 sedan right now. The power upgrade will be available in December I believe, probably won't have the "over boost" though, maybe. |

I think it would be smart of BMW to give their "performance" models some more power now that they are slapping the "M" badge on them. I think a M335i with 350 horsepower would have many more buyers than a 320 HP version would. And you know they can get 350 out of that engine... It still won't effect sales of the M3 either as the new one should have well over 400 horsepower. They can probably even charge $6K more if the power is there, compared to the "is" only be $4K extra. of course M brakes, tuned suspension and some other things will be needed as well, have a true gap filling car! maybe get to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds...
Also when the E92 came out (2005 or 2006 model year) I don't think the 335 was available yet, wasn't it the 330i with the 260 horsepower I6 engine (no turbo). and a couple years into production they came out with the 335i? so its very possible that either with the introduction of the 4 series or maybe 2 years from now they could have a new engine with the 340i label, maybe 320 HP will be standard (even more reason a M335 needs 350 HP...) |

I personally think that DCT, power kit, and performance exhaust are enough to push me up to a M335i when I return my lease in 3 years. |

I think it's a way to slap the M sport owners in the face, and a way to separate a few people with $4k more...I think it's rather insane personally....but I'd hate to offend anyone w/ that statement. You're all welcome to buy the car you wish.
Of course I've given up on BMW just selling a car, they want to update it every 1/2 year to piss off the owners of that current year because by the time they get their car it's out of date. Not that I really care, but I can't be the only one that sees this as rather rude. Save up these updates, make each years update more noticeable and impressive vs 1/2 yr improvements. Anywho, 20HP increase is stupid, make it noteworthy. heck I dunno 335hp? at least it'd sound cool on a 335i...lol. |

And I wouldnt just get the factory "power kit" tune for my M-Sport when available 1st quarter 2013 why?
X1, 4 series, 4-door 6 series, seems like BMW is gong in 10 different directions on the one hand, yet restricted color / interior options on the "lines". Makes no sense?!?!
