What would happen if you hit stop engine while cruising?

I was wondering since its so close to the ASS button that this could potentially happen.

The start/stop button is automatically deactivated while you are driving unless you press and hold for more than 3 sec, the engine will turn off.

In my 135i with MT, while driving in gear around 30mph, I press the start/stop for about 3-5 seconds and the engine shuts off.

Don't have my F30, so I don't know if BMW changed that.
I would guess it would shut the engine off, as it should when pressing a "start/STOP" button.

Just give it a try.
Drive down your road at like 5-10mph and press the button, and see what happens..

What happens for us automatic transmission guys? No worries with a manual but will mine slam itself into Park like it does when you turn the engine off when stationary? If I still had my 330d 6MT, I would happily try it but I think I'll give it a miss on my 328i 8AT because I don't know what it will do!
Also, on a manual transmission car in Neutral, can you restart the engine whilst still rolling?
If the 8AT shifts to N on rolling shutdown, can you restart the engine again and put it into D whilst still rolling?

I should add that I did once press the Engine Start Stop button (not ASS) on my E90 330d and nothing happened. It's a press and hold for 3-5s job as aforementioned.

WARNING!!! Don't try it. I started to coast and was down to about 10mph. I didn't want the stupid ASS to kick in so reached to turn it off but hit the start/stop button instead. I only pressed it briefly but it still shut down the engine, made a grinding sound and stop the car really abruptly. I quickly turned the engine back on and so far no problems, but I don't recommend trying it.

If you get a stuck gas pedal just slap the shifter to N or R. Since it's just a switch it will go into neutral (even if you put it in reverse).
I would caution accidentally hitting the P button though (e.g. resting your arm on it while driving through In-N-Out) because if you are going slow enough it will lock the trans into park, stop very abruptly and really piss off your passengers.. If it's your wife and this is her car.. it may be grounds for sleeping on the sofa that night or at least moved to the passengers seat for the remainder of the day. Please don't ask me how I know this.

If you were coasting, why did it stop the car? And why did it make a grinding noise?

I'm afraid of the "P" button! It's so tempting to press under my thumb!
