Non Assist Black "Bulb"
I was wondering why that black 'bulb' was on the car today. Last night I was wondering why my mirror didn't have the lever to 'flip' it and block headlight glare in the rear view. While fiddling, I twisted the ugly black bulb and voila! I had never seen anything about this feature in all my months on this forum, so I thought I'd share!

the black does nothing, only thing it does is when you turn it the mirror flips up on a slight angle, kind of like this thing,

On the E90s, it was red (used to call it the clown nose). It flips the rearview mirror and also contained the flashing light to let you know the alarm is armed. The 335 F30s have a clear "clown nose" (an LED inside lets you know when the alarm is armed) but the mirror is auto-dimming so it doesn't flip the mirror.
