C&D: Testing 328i auto
Hey,
Just read this new article by C&D on the 328i Auto... http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ic-test-review Pretty informative, esp considering they have a long term 328i manual on hand to compare it to. Their long term is avging 27mpg while this car got 21mpg. My sister is picking up an auto next week but wondering about the mileage others with Auto are getting. Is it less than the 25 city rating that MNFR states? Also they talk about the jerkiness of the Auto in anything other than eco-pro. |

Interesting, but some of the comments don't make sense. They picture clearly shows the sport AT with it's leather boot. Then, the writer talks about having "sport +" mode, but then states that the 328i they tested didn't have the paddles, as they are part of a $500 option that's "bundled" with adaptive chassis control. That's not true. The sport AT, the one shown in the picture, is a stand alone $500 option that includes paddle shifters, and adds sport+ to sport line or Msport. But, it isn't bundled with the adaptive suspension, that's a separate option for 2012 and is part of the dynamic handling pkg bundled with VSS-variable sport steering. He makes a comment that the shift quality is more abrupt with higher driver mode settings. I've not noticed that at all in my 335i with sport AT. The only difference in shift quality is that eco and comfort shift up at lower rpm, and sport mode holds gear until higher rpm before upshift. Also, EPA MPG rating for the 328i AT is 23/33, not 24/36. The MT is rated 23/34. The writers information is wrong, and it was written in Aug. 2012. They long term MT has the advantage of being broken in. The AT they just tested had lower avg. MPG, but it was only during the test driving, which likely was not done in a day to day daily driving manner as the long termer probably is. Not saying the 328i MT can't get better MPG, but I think avg MPG between the two is likely to be much closer than what this article suggests. So, how does he not have paddle shifters, but doesn't have the sport AT, but the picture clearly shows the sport AT shifter? Someone's not paying attention at C&D. Hey, if you guys needs a new writer and tester, I'm available. When do I start? |
