Argh! Mounted decklid spoiler, but something went wrong...

Hi all....

Got a rear decklid spoiler from JleviSW with the 3M tape. Cleaned the surface of the car first and stuck the thing on. Now I have noticed that it doesnt stick right on the right hand side. There is a gap on the underside of the spoiler.

What is the best thing to do? Take it to the dealer and have them take it of and mount it again? If so will that damage the paint on the car? And where do I get more 3M tape to stick it on again?

Please help!

Kind regards,

André

you can go to any car shop to get some extra 3M tape.... you have to take it off, and attempt to put it on again...

try using dental floss and pull it under the spoiler to get it off, then clean deck lid to remove residue and use alcohol before mounting again. You''ll need some more 3m tape.

Andre,

You can take off the spoiler by pressing up on it and peeling it off. The 3M tape is strong but will not damage your paint. Then peel off the old 3M tape, get some more from the dealer and reapply. This spoiler is tricky to get seated correctly, you have to make sure it's lined up on either side and that there is no gap under the spoiler. Also make sure it's lined up along the trunk line the entire way.

Just a quick tip. When you are trial aligning the spoiler and you have it EXACTLY where you want it, take some masking tape and apply it it the trunk around the perimeter of the spoiler. Not necessasary to do the entire perimeter, but in crucial areas. If you are really anal about it, you can also apply some tape to the spoiler and draw lines on the tape going from the spoiler to the trunk. Then all you have to do is match up the lines.

^ +1 ; another way to do it is to apply some glass cleaner (i.e. windex) and spray onto the tape before applying to the trunk. That way, you have time to make adjustment before the tape is bond to the trunk. Once you have found the perfect fitment, get a hair dryer to blow it across the whole spoiler. Make sure the dryer is not too hot and too close to the paint

Also, you should try heating the spoiler a little bit by either parking it out in the sun for a few hours or use a hair dryer. This will help to get the 3m tape tacky again so that you can pull it off.

The tape is probably good enough, but if it doesn't hold, try Betalink - it was the only thing that would really do the job right on my BMW OEM spoiler (though it is decidely more 'permanent' a solution).
