Procede And Oil Cooler Retrofit

My car received the oil cooler retrofit last week. I spoke to the technician about the procedure before the surgery to find out what is involved.

Myth one: The ECU is re-programmed. Nope. The ECU is not touched with respect to the retrofit.

Myth two: The techs remove the oil from the car and then put it back into your car. Nope. There is no oil involved whatsoever.

Myth three: You need to remove your piggyback device because the techs will find it and then try to void your warranty. WRONG!!!!!! There is absolutely nothing involved anywhere even close to the ECU where the piggyback lives and no testing or monitoring involving the piggyback.

Thus, I installed the stock map and gave them my car. I met the tech afterward and we went for a brief ride. No hint of Procede or any suggestion of it. We popped the hood to review the retrofit. The tech identified each area he touched and none of it involved the ECU area.

I just wanted to pass this along to anyone needlessly worried about it.

i agree on myth three. i have asked technik while installing my procede by technik.. u just remove the harness from the procede (disconnect the female pin from the male pin at the procede box). it should go back to oem.. tech would not know about it unless it is major serious issue than they will look it .. i hope he is right

Hmmm, they changed the oil when I had my retrofit as part of the procedure.

somewhat correct... disconnect procede, install bypass plugs, return boost solenoid to stock

However, how long before techs are asked by BMW to start taking a sneak peek to see if anything is sitting near the ECU which wasn't there when leaving the factory.

I wouldn't put it past them to make this a procedure is anything is suspect.

It may be prudent to just remove all evidence prior to a visit.

I got my retrofit because i drove my car hard until it finally went into overheat limp mode.... then they had no problem doing it for me... and I didnt have to sign my life away to BMWNA either.

Now I cant get my temp past 245 even if I slam it for hours.

You haven't been on a track then. I want to track my step eventually, but I'm not even going to try it till they get a better solution to overheating. Would you say your car ran hotter with Procede than no Procede? Just curious as mine has. I've had the Procede v1.45 for 3 months now and I can get temps to 260F with three or four WOT passes to 100mph when the car starts around 210F. As I've blathered about elsewhere, non-Proceded steps with oil cooler installed will overheat after 40-60mins track time. If it wasn't an issue I don't think the cars at Bathurst would've installed a better aftermarket oil cooler.
