Get your tips out!

See what I did there?

As the title suggests, I want to see your F3X's exhaust tips and your hard work!
As the 328i and 335i owners will likely know, the exhaust finishers get absolutely covered in soot and crap due to the direct injection and they can be a bugger to clean if you leave it for ages!

So, 7000mls in, I decided to properly clean my tips to get all the poo off!

And check them out! Not far off spotless for 20min of work!

How's yours? I would've done a before and after shot, but I didn't think of doing this until I finished cleaning them, so upload yours and try to do a before and after shot if you can!

Rub your tips good!

Mine look like hell and I'm barely past 500 miles. Will try and take a pic later.

I'll keep that in mind, never ran across that product. My car has just shy of 2k miles and I haven't noticed any build up, but maybe I need to look closer.

Tis true that turbo engines exhaust tips can get very very sooty.
It's much worse with turbo's as they need to run richer on heavier throttle useage.
My 135i had black metal tips. At first I wanted nice chrome polished tips. But, it makes sense to use black metal, as it starts to get dirty it's not as noticeable and can go a long time before you need to clean them. Chrome is so shiny that it's clearly obvious when they get dirty and you need/want to clean them.

My tips look pretty much identical - been covered in soot and crud and even after a good polish with Solvol Autosol there still seem to be one or two bits that refuse to budge.

Do you think if I rub a little harder mine will look like this...?

What did you use to clean off the bumper? My bumper has permanent soot on it.

Just regular body shampoo. AutoGlym I think it was on this occasion. Comes off dead easy.

Hmmm, even after a good rub with AutoSol at lunchtime, my tips are starting to look slightly pitted

Oooh not bad! But yeah, I don't think anybody will ever get them back to original.

Rube it as often as possible with newspaper, so it looks like new after four months.

does anybody have the black chrome tips from a Sport Line? looking at Real OEM, it looks like P/N 18307610639 (x2).

Two things stand out on the back of my car - the chrome badging and tiny chrome exhaust finishers. If they're removable, I can just coat them black satin.

Took your advice, gave the ends a quick rub this morning with a bit of screwed up newspaper and it works!

Might not look that great cos of the shadows and reflections in the photo, but doing this regularly might help slow down the pitting at the very end of the pipes.

A good tip for your tips
