Talking Harman Kardon tech spec page updated for F31

They have updated the technical specification page for the HK three series wagon to reflect the implementation in the new F31:

It's because it's a station wagon with a nice resonant cavity in the rear, probably.

625 Watt* amp in Touring v 600 in Sedan.
14 speaker in Touring v 16 in Sedan.

With the quoted power, I have discussed this tech spec in another thread. Hi Fi manufacturers quote all sorts of power claims from their amps without qualifying how it is being metered.

*There are quite a number of different ways to quote the power of an amp and in hk's instance, they do not qualify their 600 Watt+ claim.

No doubt, based on the very nice Logic7 system I have in my E90, the F30's L7 will also be very nice indeed. I am still waiting to see the full specs.

In the E91 I think it was 425 watts so I definately consider this an update. Not that the other system was bad. I am very pleased with the HK in my E90.

I might have misunderstood you. Do you mean that they used the same hardware as in E9X and just pushed the numbers from 400+ watts to 600+ watts to fool us? Don't you think they have increased the power in any way?

The analog reception of the radiostations here in Holland is just bad. Very very bad for such an expensive soundsystem.

When connected to i.e. an iPhone/the HD the digital sound is 100% better.

I don't think I'm going to order it in my next BMW...

Cheers
Robin

Uuuuh, the Harman Kardon sound system has nothing to do with the radio reception. It is your Radio Professional that has lousy antennas even though I don't have any problems in Sweden. HK just amplifies the sound and outputs it to much better loudspeakers in a bigger number than normal.

Hey Micleg.
Actually, that's a very good question. However, one would truly hope that the Logic7 system for the F30, will be different from that in the E90 in that it would ba a 7 year technical improvement and actually offer '600+ watts'.

I do not know what hk does, except they do not not disclose whether their current 600 watt L7 for the F30 is peak power, peak to peak, rms, or 37.5 watts per 'channel' (16 mini amps for each speaker) or whatever. hk do not disclose this information, so quoting 600 watts is only part of the sentence and deceiving. Almost akin to saying an F30 car go from 0 - 100kmh - finishing the sentence there!

In addition, please be aware that nominally, car hi fi audio systems have been quoted into 4 ohm (impedance) speakers (even 2 ohms), whereas home hi fi systems are generally (or traditionally have been) 8 ohms. The hi fi manufacturers have changed things over the decades.

So, I believe that hk provide the F30 with 600+ watt system, just not HOW they achieve that number. The traditional way I grew up with and learned at electronics college is rms.

There are very few HIFI companies that actually deliver their power output watt claim. The most notable in audio history who actually deliver more than what is claimed are New Acoustic Dimension (NAD) and Harman Kardon (HK). Google it , you will be surprised how man reputable companies deliver poor power output like DENON.
