Anyone done a before/ after dyno on a replacement flat panel filter?
Has anyone, after fitting a replacement flat panel filter (e.g. the K&N 33-2990) used a dyno to measure a before/ after power and torque on their 328i?
I'm only interested in actual results for a replacement OEM flat-panel, not a CAI. |

I would be interested to see.
From years of doing mods like these, panel filters offer almost no gains, perhaps 1-2 whp which is within the norm for variation from dyno run to dyno run. It certainly does not hurt and costs very little.

We'll probably do this in the near future. We, too, have seen pretty small changes in dyno results with drop-in panel filters (new paper vs. new cloth). A dyno is not a very good tool for testing intakes, since most don't replicate the air movement of road conditions, which is key the performance of an air intake. On an N54, with the hood open, we saw a repeatable 8whp change by removing the stock paper filter. We didn't have a high-flow drop-in at the time of testing, so we don't have those results. It's probably safe to assume the drop-in results would be somewhere in between those numbers.
A couple of other thoughts: -A dirty paper air filter vs. a dirty cloth filter would show worse results. -The 'noise' of our Mustang dyno is pretty small. We can do repeated runs on a car and get results scattered within one ft/lb. |

Update: I've ordered a BMC filter for the car, once it arrives I'll get the before and after runs down and post up the data.
As Jamesons said above, I reckon any change will be within the error variance of the dyno itself. I really shouldn't be doing this, filters are a gateway drug/mod... |

Filter went in today. Induction noise is a little bit of ear-candy
Not sure if I can be arsed with the dyno though, the runs will cost as much as the part and I'm feeling tight atm :P |

Not sure who in Brazil sells them, I bought mine through a local distributor. $150 isn't far off the money however.
