6MT and Valet/Garage Parking

Decided I'm going with the 6MT but a bit concerned with parking the car at valet or parking garages. I usually park myself, but there are some cases where handing the keys over can't be avoided, but it seems like 90% of US drivers dont even know what a manual is

A manual? That's the book in the glove compartment that tells you all the stuff about your car. No?

I would NEVER valet my car, regardless whether it's a manual or an automatic.

Haha good one... But I think in order to be valet you have to know how to drive MT and AT... And a clean driving record. Just note down the milage. Before you hand the keys over.

I wonder if BMW has a valet mode where it prevents the RPM from passing a certain point.

I tend to agree, but I occasionally need to drive into NYC, and going to a garage is unavoidable. Parking on the street (if even possible) is probably way more risky

I'm with you. The whole concept of handing my prized possession over to a complete stranger and then paying him is just crazy!

I have the 6MT and most places I go whether it be clubs or friends home I have to valet. I think they all know how to drive a MT as I always watch as they drive off and then I check the app where they parked.

not necessarily true. i used to valet cars at a hospital as one of my first jobs. a guy in a SRT-4 came in and my other co-worker was the one up to valet it since i was just parking a car (there were only 2 of us that day). as soon as he got inside he saw it was stick and just sat in there for a while till i came back. he got out and asked me if i knew how to drive stick and i said yes. He said, "good thing you're here cuz i don't know how to drive stick and i was gonna try and park it without even knowing how to drive it just hoping i wouldn't break anything"..................

on a side note, most valet's USUALLY should know how to drive a MT. if the valet cannot drive a stick, he should inform someone else that does know how to drive it to park it for them.

Dont worry about it. I have had manuals for years, am sometimes forced to valet in Houston, and have never had a problem with someone not knowing how to drive.
