Is this noise what they call wastegate rattle?

Have this subtle, hashy, metallic rattle from the transmisssion area. Best heard when going slow, around 35mph steady speed in 3rd or 4th gear. Noise stops immediately when clutch is depressed, and returns immediately when re-engaged. Mine is an N55 and I've never heatd of any wastegate issues with this engine. Can a clutch have a rattle? Been doing this since new. Now has 17k miles. Thanks for any advice.

so why don't you take it to the dealer if its been doing it since new.

Why didn't I take it to the dealer? Exactly because I thought it might be the wastegate. Been on this site since the beginning and have seen the result of such complaints on the N54--reprogramming which left many very upset. Rather live with the noise.

you have a relatively new car that has problems and is covered under warranty. Quit asking what the noise is and take it to the dealer! If the car comes out messed up then take it back again! 3rd time will categorize it as a lemon. Use the warranty BMW provided
