Good thing I was not driving the E92 this morning... Totaled?

So for some odd reason I decided to drive the "snow mobile" to class today. Luckily I was not in the E92... Long story short I rear ended someone. No one was injured and my car sustained the most damage. The car is a 2005 325xi with just under 100k. Think its totaled? As far as I can see, the radiator, rad support, ac condenser and probably some other damage that I couldn't see. Thankfully no one was hurt and the E92 is sitting at home in the garage safe and sound!

The car in front of my was cut off very bad, they slammed on their brakes as I was looking at the NAV to see how was calling me, look up and took a F-250 to the face... hence why the damage in relatively high...

Damn truck chipped my roundel haha

Car will be totaled, you have atleast 5k worth of damage, 05 is only worth about 5k.

Hopefully I will get more then 5k if it is totaled... Dont really know where you got that number as nada and kbb are around 10-11 for trade in/private party. I havent looked at the market lately but I doubt you can get a get a pretty loaded 05 325xi with under 100k and in good condition... We will see how everything plays out

If you can find nice '05 325iX's with under 100K for 5k, I'll take two and give you a fat commission. FWIW, Edmunds says $6200 trade-in to $9200 retail, NADA says $6200TI to $12K retail, and I sure as heck would want something close to dealer retail from an insurance company on a total loss.

And especially as this is the OP's second car, he can take his time and play hardball on the valuation. Which in turn, decides if it is a total loss or not. You are going to get shafted on an at-fault accident, might as well hold out for as much as possible, it looks like it was a nice car from the pics.

A ticket would probably be for something along the lines of following too closely or failure to keep proper distance etc. Glad you didn't get a ticket though. I got one as a kid and forgot how they worded it.

Yeah in some places I heard that a rear-end offender gets systematically a ticket related to failure to keep proper distance.

Can probably be repaired, will probably not be repaired, as damage total a significant part of the car value (if not all).

Glad you are OK, but rear-ending somebody because you were playing with your car infotainement is entirely your fault. Hope you learn from that mistake, it doesn't sound like you did by the way you tell the story, but you should. Not trying to stone you or anything, just saying.

In FL, you will get a ticket guaranteed. No fault law sucks!

Glad you're ok. Too bad you were distracted, I'm guess the F-250 didn't take any damage. That nav doesn't even have Facebook or Twitter!

Yeah I know it was my fault, even though it was caused by someone cutting off the car in front of me. I wasnt "playing" with the NAV simply just checking who was calling me before answering (via bluetooth) even though talking on cell phones is not illegal in VT. Following distance is questionable but come on, no one on this forum can honestly tell me they drive a "safe" distance from people at all time... Also, not trying to retaliate or anything, I take no offense to your post!

That also means the driver took all of the momentum shift straight to the body. Give him a day or two and he will probably have back/neck pains.

They say most traffic accidents could be avoided. This is one of them. Whenever I am about to glance at the Nav even for a fraction of a second, I back off and keep the foot over the brake before doing so.
