Difference in cables for coding???

I'm new to this whole coding thing and was looking to buy a cable to changes features such as auto close sunroof when it rains. As well as resetting errors my car throws when i accidently unplugged my passenger seat and recoding my car since i have to change my battery now, and its suggested to recode. I've seen the same cables going for anywhere between $30-$50 but some are around $100 with some "diagnostic" attachment. Is that really needed?

$30-$50 cable

The cheaper silver/gray cable is for models up to 2008... The black cable is for newer models

There is a pin difference ... Number 8

Garage List
BTW, the auto sunroof Close upon rain only works if the car is ON (it uses rain sensor for wipers) - so unless you plan on leaving your car running after you get out everywhere you go - don't bother with that one...

My main question is the ability to reset and read the check engine lights as well as errors thrown by the car other then ECUs. Such as my "restraint malfunction" error. It wasnt an ecu error so I couldnt reset it.
