can my fellow Canadians help me out?
hey everyone,
new member here. been lurking for the past month or so. i'm planning on gettin an e90 soon (preferably a 330 sport).. any tips or advice you can give me on scoring a good deal? what kind of pricing did you all get when you compare to MSRP and dealer invoice? i'd like to contact a few dealers and see how flexible they are on price and maybe we can meet halfway on the prices... do you think asking for $2500 below msrp is unreasonable? (the diff between msrp and invoice is about $5000) thanks in advance. jigga |

Hey Jigga,
I bought my car way back in June, so I didn't have much leverage, but they did take off 500 from MSRP. You can always try to get a few small things thrown in for free also. The dealerships are more willing to throw in free mudflaps and floormats etc. than subtracting from the purchase price. Also check what some dealerships have in inventory. Many people will put downpayments, and then decide later not to buy the car. However, the dealership is then screwed into accepting the car anyway, so if you search the lots for brand new cars, then you will almost certainly be able to get some money off of MSRP. Hope that helps. By the way, I bought my car in Waterloo. |

Thanks for the reply Wetts.
My thing is, I'm quite stuck on getting an Alpine White 330 w/sport and definitely don't want to change that... even if it means getting a better price. With my luck, most dealerships won't have white in stock or on order, so I'll have to find out about that. |

The best Canadian deal so far goes to the Alberta bros. on the board, who by ordering two cars through a broker got over $2700 in cash and prizes off each of their cars. If you are dealing with a sales associate, I doubt you will get the same amount off... but I encourage you to try! (I think they were able to get that price because the broker went directly to the sales manager, cutting out the salespersons commission.)
The one time I've spoken numbers, they offered $700 off MSRP. I politely said thanks and walked out the door. I know Canadian dealerships don't get the same volume or incentives as US dealerships, but I'm not going to buy a car at that low a discount... I got a better discount on my current car when there was still a year-long waiting list for it! |

5% off if thru a car broker. $500-$1000 if deal direct. The diff is what the salesperson make on the sale. Unfortunately being in Canada, we have almost no bargaining power with BMW.

When I was in the market at the end of September all the Montreal dealers were sticking to a strict 1% new buyer, 2% repeat buyer policy. |

Us Albertans get no PST too....you all should move here!!! Hockey team is getting better too..... I got about $1000 off in July and they also waived doc. fees ($400) and this is is before the small price increase ($400)......it was the 2nd car from the same dealership. I am sure sooner or later you can knock off over $2000 but maybe in the new year....I knocked off about $2700 off an E46 and I am sure they made lots of money from me.....I got free winter mats too....

Well, I think $2500 may be asking for a lot. I bought mine from a salesperson because 1) he happened to be my aunt's friend and 2) I like to have a person I can turn to (or yell at) when my car has problems. Anyway, I can give u his contact info if u want. For a 330i, he would definitely give you at least $1200 off, plus the expected floor mats, etc.

One more thing: I see that you're going for the SP, so don't forget to ask for Michelin PS2 tires instead of the Bridgestone RE050A, which are not as good.

that was right off the bat.. no haggling or even going in to see him. he did however ask me to let him confirm and get back to me. IMO, $2000 off msrp is pretty decent. do you think he'll come back and tell me he can't do that much? we'll see what happens. where does your uncle work? and what's his name if i do decide to contact him? |

They should be able to swap tires from their existing stock, if available.

[he said on a 330 they can take $2,000 off MSRP.
that was right off the bat.. no haggling or even going in to see him. $2000 of is pretty decent but if you buy during christmas (Slow days) they might just give it to you for $2500 off msrp. I was quoted $1200 w/just casual conversation. So $2000 is not a bad deal at all. Which dealer did you goto? So let us know in what they end up giving you. |
