downpipes are they worth the hassle?
Hi, I have a 335i with a Procede Piggyback which was installed with AR downpipes not catless. I had them taken off for some warrantee work to be carried out. I have never driven the car without them and I wondered what I will miss If I don't put them back on. I am only talking about the downpipes not the proceed that will go back on anyway as that isn't such a big job to remove.
I do not intend to mod the engine further and I will extend the BMW warrantee when it runs out. So I am trying to make up my mind if the extra performance is worth the possible hassle/cost of having to remove them again if I need further warrantee work again. Looking for feedback from anyone who has driven with JB4, proceed, or simular with OME downpipes and then added AR ones. my car has uprated suspension and lsd. |

If you want a warranty, dont put them back in - you'll pay £500+ to swap them out and back each time you want to claim.
Or If you want the power, dont renew the warranty and save the money for bills. I dont have a warranty and just replaced the turbos, but at least I can use good indies rather than the muppets at the dealer. Pay to play!

If you are talking about catted AR downpipes then it give you 10-15 bhp which you hardly notice. You will feel turbo's spools a little longer but not much difference since you are running sports cat not the catless version.

Andyoxon, your car / history sounds similar to mine. I had Evolve then added AR catted downpipes. I'd say the DP's do make a difference but there are diminishing returns at work here. Namely, going from stock to Evolved is "wow!", then adding DP's plus Evolve stage 2 is "ooh nice". That said, I think my catted DP's make the car sound lovely and growly, not silly loud but nicely aggressive. If you want the peace of mind of warranty, keep stock DP's - as Phil says, swapping DP's in and out is well nigh impossible.
Or do what I've done, forget the warranty, use a good indy, get the car how you want it and enjoy the car. Mike. |
