Crap...friend of mine broke his neck at Watkins Glen recently
He was driving this..and apparently lost control. He is a paraplegic already...due to a mountain biking accident back in the mid 90s...and drives on the track with hand controls...and now he has a spinal fracture, I am told...at C3...not good..not good at all. He is apparently on a ventilator now..
Be careful out there guys...take it to the track and drive within your limits while at the track. I have been with him on track..and he knows what he is doing, even using hand controls. His car is a stage 3 B5 platform S4....that hauls ass.

Stories like this always flash through my mind as I get ready to start a session at a school. Then I think about my kids...when I am on track and somebody wants to pass, I again attempt to think about stories like this. It all helps to reduce the red haze.
I am sorry to read about your friend. Hopefully modern medicine will help him get better soon!

I drive in NASA and a BMW M3 driver died a few weeks ago at Mid-Ohio, in a race on Aug 19th, after spinning out on oil from a 944 who blew his his engine, crashing into the then off-line 944
"Description of events- Larry Collins driving a 944 lost his motor at the kink or about half way down the back straight. Larry went to drivers left as his car was filling with smoke and with limited visibility he felt that there where faster cars on the inside passing him. He went into the wet grass and slowed to a stop beyond the end of the straight. The 944 was in or next to china beach to the far left. As John Engle in his M3 made his way around the track the starters flag station on the back straight was showing the debris flag, and the next station at the end of the straight was showing a yellow flag. The station at the top of the hill was clear. John was around 10 sec. in front of the 944 when the engine let go, so it was around a 1:20 later he was making his way down the back straight. As John entered the area he went thought the oil and started to spin. The two cars came together 1:34 sec after the 944 came to a stop, right corner of the 944 to the left A pillar and door area of the M3. The cage on the M3 was pushed in enough that it had trapped John’s legs so that when he tried to get out he could not. The cage was cut away and John could move his feet as he was on his way to the hospital. At the hospital it was discovered that John was bleeding internally some where in the upper chest cavity from the rate of deceleration at impact. Larry hurt a muscle in his leg along and has a sore neck but will be fine. " http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic....20a2dbf36f08c5

He and his car were featured in European Car magazine a few months back...here is a pic from that article. This is a pic BEFORE the accident..and btw, rumor has it that he has been able to move his arms...which is a very good sign.

Hope all works out for the better. That guy has already proved he can get through obstacles. His car looks sick. I'm sure his will to race again will get him through this.

Yeah...were were almost sideways going thru turn #8 at Thunderhill once...we had to brake hard to avoid someone mega braking for that turn...I have had a lot of fun with him on track in the past 9 years.
