I-Drive DVD heat exposure

My E90 is non-Idrive equipped, so was hoping someone could chime in on this. Is the nav loaded off a DVD once, or does it require the DVD to be in the disc drive at all times?

Basically I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues with their nav DVD warping or becoming damaged due to the heat. You can't leave anything inside your car during the summer out here... cd's warp, iPods stop working, small children spontaneously combust. Would the DVD be another thing I'd have to remove each time I drove?

Here it is August 29th, and we're looking at another 112° day.

You can make a copy of the original DVD and use that one all the time. If it goes bad, burn another one. It would suck to take it out every time you leave the car.

Good call. Never thought about that option.

Yeah, and I never thought it'd be a issue while living in Michigan.
But again, when it's between 110-120 outside; imagine how hot it is inside your car.

My original Nav DVD is at home.
I have a copy for the car. So far so good.

I find that my navigation "crashes" (i.e. "green screen") whenever I leave the car in the heat (not I-drive, just the nav app). I am using a backup copy.

Once the cabin cools down I eject and re-insert the DVD. Works fine from then on.

That's about as good a recommendation as you'll get.

FWIW, my nav DVD has been inside the DVD player since the first day I got the car over a year ago. Lots of hot, humid days here in DC, and no problems.
