Oil Cooler retrofit on first production 335i's
Good News...
I just talked to my SA, He called me and has scheduled an appt to to have the oilcooler retrofit installed. It is scheduled for the 19th of Sept. He mentioned there is an Bulletin for the first production 335i. My production date is 09/2006. We will see how it goes. He mentioned the install will take all day. But at least I will have it done. . The newer models should already have them installed.. Kudos to Westlake BMW of So Cal

Just talk to your SA about it, and go from there. Are you sure you don't have the oil cooler retrofit already?

Mine was built in July 2006, so your's is not the first, but more like the first batch. Obviously I don't have it. I have the chance to get it, though.

Latest on Oil Cooler retrofit!
I just spoke to my SA and he mention that the retrofit will be offered for the first production/batch of the 335i coupes with speed limiter / sport pkg . Non sport pkg does not apply. Although it wouldn't hurt to ask. I think there are motor oils out there that lowers oil temps, but I am not sure, as far as suggestions, maybe you can try Royal Purple, Amsoil or Mobil -1. Good Luck.

Or you can call your SA, but they will probably refer to BMWNA for authorization, and just make the process longer... If you dont have ZSP and 155mph limiter, then you cant get it. |

just so all you know, there is no bulletin for the oil cooler. It is not necessary to have it installed. it is a kit for auto e90's for certain circumstances. the installation is NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I know this because i am the service manager at the largest BMW dealer ship in the world. sorry to burst any ones bubble.

As you say, it is not necesasry, and that is what BMWNA will tell you when you call in... and that is I why I stated that you must note that your car has overheated and gone into LIMP mode, then bmw will take action without question. My dealership installed the oil cooler after i brought it in for overheating, and then I had to call BMWNA to start a case, and then BMWNA authorized my dealership to do the install. The whole process took 3 days. Thanks for the info. |

OK......I will make this quick and get to the point. After speaking at the BMW NA rep, he asked me to go by my dealer and make sure the oil cooler was absent. Took the car to the Dealer, lifted the vehicle up and they adviced me that the oil cooler is installed on my car ???? my vehicle had a Production date of 11-06-2006....6SP Manual w' SPKG and Premium....are they being honest? its raining today, therefore i will have to wait till tomorrow to look under my right front fender/front bumper, my temp has never gone above 260 even at the track w' the TT installed, no Limp modes, no Power reduction warnings.....!
