I put e85 in my car for the first time. I have an 09 335i e92 with jb4 g5 (map 5) DCI and catless DPs.

I put only 4 gallons in and filled up on 93 octane from Valero.

The car immediately ran smoother. I used to get frustrating shivers and spikes while just sitting at idle... And now there is little to none engine ping.

Performance-wise: I actually didn't feel a difference. On auto-tune I was still only getting a max of 15Psi. Maybe a bit of gain in throttle response.

With that said; the way my engine calmed down is enough to make me use e85!!

Question: can I put e85 in 5 gallon jugs (since the station in 30 min away from me) to use when I fill up? I'm
Not sure if maybe it's a hazard? Or if the fuel only can last so long canned?

Thanks for any advice

You should get a medal for bravery! I know I wouldn't try that; these cars are historically temper-mental about fuel. I haven't even tried 89!

I'm glad it worked for you. I wonder what the long term effects will be. Sorry, I don't know anything about storing e85.

People have been pushing more and more ethanol into these motors, so far outside of delivery issues there don’t seem to be any frequent problems cropping up. Obviously as you increase the ethanol you start to run out of trim and pumping ability, but once accounted for people are getting awesome gains from it. IMO an E30 type mix really isn’t that big of a deal, OP isn’t taking much of a risk at all.

This is why I love it. At 30% it's not much of a risk yet it's plenty to cut the knock and ping out of my engine!

Your running almost the exact same setup as i am. When i installed all my mods and started using e85 i couldnt figure out why i was only hitting 13lbs boost on map 5. When i switched out of map 5, went into map 2, and then back into map 5 is when i started seeing 17lbs consistent. Might want to try "relearning" map 5

I used to feel the same way, and as you said these cars are temper-mental about fuel in which our cars perform better with an increase of ethonal in our tanks

Please keep in mind, the same exact BMW sold in the USA are sold in Brazil that uses E20 gas.

Does Map5 have a cap on how much boost it can target and/or hit? You're FBO with E85 as added detonation protection, you should absolutely be able to target more than 17psi peak. Not a lot more, but on just 93 pump with the same mods I see closer to 18.5psi peak. Again, not a drastic difference, and not necissarily "more powerful"..but at 17psi with the type of timing you should be able to get with E85, i'd think you could up the boost for sure.

Maybe a stupid question but I have no experience with ethanol, with JB4 stage 2, do I have to do the ISO and use flex fuel wires to run a mix of E85 with 93 octane?

On 93 and the mods I mentioned, I only see 14-15 psi . Terry couldn't find a solution. He did however say that he personally wouldn't go over 15psi with just 93 octane. I had to set up a custom map 6 to get my desire boosts on 93

Run around on Map 0 for a few miles then go back to Map5 and do three consecutive WOT runs to help map 5 learn the new fueling. You should feel a vast difference in power... Vast difference
