So is Nav worth it.

I see mostly negative feeback about the idrive/nav system. I just placed the order for my car and still have the opportunity to make changes.

Point blank.... is this option worth it/would you get it again if you had a second chance?

Absolutely. I wouldn't buy a BMW without it.

For sure, you will kick yourself in the ass for not getting it. It's totally worth it.

I didn't have i drive and i don't regret it, I really don't like the dash with the nav bump! Actually I was having a GPS system in my previous car and I never used it!

Remember, the Nav option in the 3-Series also gets you iDrive. No Nav, no iDrive. I think the Nav/iDrive option is worth every penny. If iDrive was standard, and Nav was an option, then I think it depends on your personal circumstances.

NAV/iDrive just makes your car so much more luxurious. Now, if I could only get the TV audio/video, it would be so much more better. One thing I regret not having bought is leather. Instead I opted for the leatherette. I thought it would be the same over time, but my leatherette is starting to spot. I can see it getting worn around the edges of the middle console and I'm afraid it's going to start ripping thru in 1 or 2 more years. Next time I won't save on that.

I haven't had to use it to actually navigate to anywhere yet, but having the real-time traffic data integrated with it is great. It highlights roadways that have slow traffic, etc., and the iDrive Traffic Info page gives you accident/roadwork data out to a hundred miles or more, sorted by relative nearness to your current location.

As above, it's iDrive+Nav, so if you want the features of iDrive, which I think are worth having, Nav is going to be there too. If you have periodic need of a navigation system (sales calls, misc. travel, etc.), I think that having it built in is a no-brainer. I'm all for extra gadgets, but that would be one more thing that you'd have to remember when you travel, and you'd have to mount it into the car in some fashion, etc. I suspect that Garmin et al do have better and/or more current navigation software than that supplied by BMW, but I like the built-in nature and the full integration with iDrive.

iDrive itself is pretty easy to get comfortable with for the typical things that you'll tweak on a daily basis. Some of the more obscure features will require you to look at what you're doing.

I've used the Nav for driving in London (UK) which paid for it right then and there with the elimination of the frustration of having to check and recheck a paper map. The various displays and the ease of changing the settings is a bonus in my mind. I don't mind the camel hump; in fact, I think it adds to the beauty of the interior of the car. I debated on whether to get the system and am very happy with the choice I made.

I just ordered mine with nav/idrive. Now should I get the ipod/usb connection on the car? Any benefits besides seeing the names and directory on the nav? Will there be a future with the USB connection?

It's a no brainer. Guy at work bought his (new 3 series) without and everytime he gets in my car he gets depressed. It's great.

Of course it is worth it.

I have it on my both cars. Honestly, I don't get those complaining about I-Drive. Its easy to use, even though I have to admit it isn't as good as the one in a Lexus, but its better with one than without.

The Nav portion of it sucks compared to other OEM nav units out there like Lexus and Acura. If you've tried those, you'll get frustrated on how primitive the BMW one is BUT for all of the other functions that you get with it and the aftermarket tunabliity of it, it's CHEAP!

It's how I was able to able to locate meets and find longtran's place

EDIT: Touch screen may be easier, but dang guys...any somewhat technically savvy person will find the idrive a breeze. I actually like it better than frantically reaching for the lcd screen when driving. iDrive is laid back. The LAG SUCKS though

Thumbs up Totally worth it

I went on vacation last week to San Diego for 4 days and the nav. totally came in handy. Although there were some glitches, for example some one-ways were incorrect and some points of interest changed. I think bmw is teaming up with Google for next generation nav. Who knows maybe sometime in 2009 or 2010. Anyways, for now, go for it. Get the nav.
