As appeared in the Oct 07 issue of Road & Track. They call it the JaguarDrive but it is for operating the transmission!

Can you imagine trying to change the radio and you accidentally put the car in reverse?

LOL. But its not just Jag. the new Mitsu concept is joining the party as well with the knob-based gear shift.

BMW invents stuff we all cry faul then all the copy cats start what they do best.
Imitation is the best form of flattery. To the OP, I think this is a crapy idea for a gear shift though. BMW has the right stuff.
Yes I can imagine changing the radio only to realize I shifted into reverse and crash into something

Perhaps they are thinking is, now that so many BMW drivers have mastered the iDrive, they'll jump to the Jaguar ?!?
Or maybe not. I'm kinda fond of that cute little roundel, anyway.
