Night Vision update to include animal recognition?

I've just found the article here:
http://www.bmw-post.com/2013/03/19/b...ection-system/

Can anyone with access to reliable information confirm whether this will be a software update that we can get applied to pre-LCI cars, or not, please?

It's not too late in the build process to add night vision to my car, and the lack of this specific feature is why I chose to not spend the money on night vision. If I know I can get this feature, I'll add it in.

This is the improved exclusive version is only for LCI, it can detect wild animals, the your night vision detected were domestic animals. This new system isn't retrofittable by the way.

What a wast of money, if you are looking at that screen your not looking at the road.
I wonder if it spots Police with speed guns, it may be worth buying then, if it gate audible warnings.

Do you have a source for that that can be shared? I'd like to be certain either way.

Agreed. But the current system puts warnings in the HUD - different warnings for "there's a pedestrian, but they're at the side of the road" and "that dude's stood in the road". The latter warning gets bigger as you get closer to them. You don't need to actually look at the iDrive screen at all.

It would definitely show hotter objects in the iDrive screen, such as a car that was parked with all its lights off, but that was still warm, be they police or not, but it wouldn't cause an alert for any reason.
