Need winter tires on LI?

Looking into trading my 335xi for the Activehybrid 3 with rwd. Wondering if winter tires are needed on LI? I don't go out during blizzards, and the roads are cleared quick.

For a 2 year lease, is buying winter tires a necessity?

I agree. For a lease I would not waste the money which will be quite a few bucks. Since you do not go out in the heavy stuff I would not bother. I had my e90 for the last 3+ years with Conti DWS all seasons. Never got stuck. Before the debate starts on snows and AWD. I will say it now. Snows are a better choice but since the OP has made clear his winter style driving then I stand by my advice. Enjoy your new ride.

as long as you get all seasons and not summer. Freezing temps alone are hazardous with summer tires. Stay out of the snow and you will be fine.

Any good winter tires recommend for nyc winter condition?

I know Blizzak is good for snow and ice but not so good on the dry winter road?
Trying to find a balance.

My father has pirrelli sotozero on his awd panamera for winter, I will be getting a set for my f30 come next winter. Available for 19 inch wheels as well so don't need to buy winter wheels.

I dont think Blizzaks are too bad on dry winter roads. Definitely some more road noise and (obviously) not as grippy, but I have been pleased with mine. Plus, If you care about RFT, the Blizzaks have that also.

so winter performance tires (LM60) or winter studless ice & snow (WS70), for RWD?

the only concern is the up hill ability as I hit the near mountains 8-10 times a year snowboarding.

I think if the roads are well plowed, or hard packed snow, you should be fine. Its the unplowed, powder type snow that the AWD helps get u out of. Even then, man can't beat the laws of physics.
