what to expect with 335xi coupe and mods.

The 335xi coupe, will it be better, worst or the same, with procede?

Will they make the same whp?

also I would think from evos/sti/audi that awd would help in the 1/4.

Is there a speed difference in the 4 door 335i and the coupe 335i?

so the 335xi 4door is it the same thing (speed, handling wise) as the 335xi coupe?

Ready to order 1 but don't want lacking performance of the 335i.. I live in NJ so the awd will be very beneficial.

they will make the same hp with chip annd all etc...

awd will help on the launch.. otherwise it adds weight which will slow you down a bit, but then again who really cares its not like u buy the car just so u can launch it all the time... or did you?

coupe is maybe a hair squeek quicker but they are pretty much the same honestly..

living in NJ, i would go with a 335xi Coupe you would be the man.. and with ur chip and some downpipes ud be M5 fast with AWD which is the BOMB for winter and launches and backroad curves...

have fun.. oh and remembert the 4 door has different tail lights to me they look like crap but thats my opinion.. the coupe has much smoother rounded tailights which look bad asss..

Thanks for your response, I agree with more weight.. however i am obsessive and have read every article about the 335xi coupe and they all say that 0-60 is faster by .1 and .2 and that the extra traction =s out the extra weight... so hypothetically they are the same really. I just love the fact of being able to drive around in the winter!

I think it will have a faster 0-60 and a slower 60-100 and it will be slower on the 1/4 mile...

I have a 335XI which I just added a turbo tuner to. Trust me you won't be dissapointed, it is more car than most people could ever utilize. The launch in this car is unreal. I really doubt there are many cars that could give this car a match without a very skilled driver and even more hp than this car.

Fantastic there is NO way you will be dissapointed.

AWD will give the car a great launching ability. But at higher speed, it won't be as fast.

When would that take effect I was bouncing off the speed limiter tonight and it was screaming fast. By the way my other car is a 440whp E36 M3. I would say with a chip this car is 90% of what my M is. The differences have to be extremely minimal.

A second or so after launch.
As stated, AWD is very important in the launch and without a doubt the 335xi will outlaunch a 335i. That's why it's 0-60 is a tick or so quicker.
But once rolling, the added 220+ pounds and the additional drivetrain power losses come into play and it slows down compared to the 335i.

My guess is the 335xi will have equal (maybe .1 second slower) 1/4 mile time. but have trap speeds that are 1-1.5 mph slower.
From a roll, there would be no contest the 335i will pull on the 335xi.
Just think of it this way, the 335i would have to have a 220 pound football player sitting in the passenger seat, and be sucking another 3-4% of it's power away from the wheels in order for the 335xi to compete once rolling.

Furthermore, the OP asked about handling.
The AWD versions sit up higher and I don't believe have the same sport suspension, so no they won't handle as well as the 335i either.
As for coupe vs. sedan.
Well, again, the coupe is a bit lighter so it will have the tiniest bit of advantage in a straight line.
As for handling, the coupe will handle a bit better too.
The coupe has a 25% stiffer chassis and is 1.8 inches lower, so it's center of gravity is better, which in turn means better balance and handling in the hands of equal drivers.

But if you live in NJ don't worry about ultimate performance.
You'll want the AWD version for winters and traction.
Plus, you'll easily cream a 335i off the line if the road is just a tiny bit slippery or wet or dusty, or whatever.
So if you get challenged by a 335i driver, play fair, do a run from a stop so you have the advantage and do one from a roll, where he'll have the advantage. But from a stop, you better end the race by 100 mph or the 335i will be passing.

Final opinion: For where you live get the 335xi Coupe.

I do a lot of driving on road courses in the M and put my R compuonds on this XI and took it on the same great back roads I have around my house. Honestly I think I would have a very hard time shaking the XI on a track with the power it has (torque under the curve). The Auto even holds the car in the correct gear. Where my M would leave it in the dust is the upper revs on long straights. It makes peak HP at 7k rpm 440whp where the XI is probaly around 320 at the wheels. You can't overcome that HP difference.

I am totally impressed by the chasis of this car, I can't reach the limits of the stock suspension on the streets, I doubt anybody else could either, not to be arrogant but I am a pretty advanced driver on the track and this car is wholly capable. I really doubt a novice would notice 200lbs and ever achieve that level on the street. Not to mention the traction of the XI in corners is amazing. Speed through the corners is more about your confidence, you have a lot of confidence with the XI in corners traction is excellent.

I thought about a coupe too but it was totally impractical for my application with a family. Plus the XI sedan is such a sleeper.

Jim M3 and others, I would really like to see a tuned 335xi go against another AWD twin turbo sedan with mods - namely a stage III B5 S4 with K04 turbos. That would be a perfect match up.
