Unhappy BMW 2 series prototype crashes on Autobahn

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Just stumbled upon this article of a BMW 2 Series prototype crash on a German Autobahn yesterday evening. According to the article the driver lost control of his car at high speed, clipping 50m of the beam barrier on the right hand side of the road and came to a rest after another 150m in the left hand lane. Furthermore, 4 other cars on the other side were hit by debris. Luckily the driver sustained only minor injuries and no one else was hurt.

When looking at the pictures it seems that this is not a M235i prototype but maybe rather a 225i or even a diesel. Maybe somebody knows more or can tell better from the pictures.

ll 225i to me:

In Photo 3 it looks to me like left side twin tailpipes; tires do not look like sport tires, more like year round tires. Wheels are different than the M235 spy photos.

Saftey test...Check!

In all seriousness, I'm glad no one was heavily injured and that everyone was able to walk away.

Better something like this happens while in testing so that it doesn't happen to a customer in the future (assuming it wasn't completely driver error).

Also, for those that say it looks pretty bad, umm... it was an Autobahn crash at "high speeds." The cabin is still completely in tact! Doesn't look that bad to me considering...

I like the new feature that when you crash your 2-series, all the debris piles up neatly on the curb all on its own.

Maybe the front camo blew off... and he couldn't allow the front of the car to be revealed.
