Need better braking using stock rotors and calipers...
I need to significantly improve braking performance and heat capability on the stock M5 breaks.... what are some suggestions in getting this done? I want to keep it to as low of a budget as possible, but I need a lot better than stock.
Heat fade is rampant, as well as what I believe to be underperforming stopping performance. Which pads? Which SS brake lines (if needed)?

Currently there are no high(er) performance pads available that I know of due to the characteristics of the pad design although you could talk to Carbotech about some one off pads for the car.
I would immediately change out the brake fluid as the first step. I like APRacing's 600 or PRF 660 fluid. It will be less prone to boil than the OEM fluid and should recover faster as well. SS brake lines if available will not decrease brake 'fade', only marginally increase pedal 'feel'. Bish |

I imagine pads would be all you need, except Motul fluid might help too. Does Pagid make sets for our cars? Always used the Oranges for track duty in my Porsche.

Castrol SRF is the best brake fluid period.
If this is for track use, consider adding ducts to the rotors, but you really need track pads. .

After tracking the M6GC I realized that the proper brakes for this car are CCB. Seeing that I don't have them (and won't until 2015) I asked around and apparently there are "track pads" offered by BMW in Germany. This was also mentioned to me by some of the Performance School staff. We cannot buy them here, but I am attempting to get a set.
Just out of curiosity, where are you coming from with this? Sure, there is some brake fade but IMHO really only when the car is pushed hard on the track. Very spirited driving does not exhibit fading or brakes with inadequate stoping performance. In looking at your stable you have (or have had) some serious vehicles - interested in your view on this!

M54ccibo,
I have experienced it multiple times on the street -- I actually drive very, very aggressively and have had the brake fade occur within the city (due to multiple frequent hard slowdowns for turns or traffic avoidance), as well as on mountain roads coming up to corners (The Snake on Mulholland for example). The car is very heavy for the brakes, so they heat up quickly. I need the increased stopping performance for sudden slowdowns on the freeway from ~140-150Mph speeds due to sudden traffic congestion, or possible inept drivers cutting me off and having no passing or longer braking distance options.

Come to Targa Trophy - LA to Vegas run, July 27th
www.targatrophy.com http://targatrophy.com/experience-event-5-la-2013/ I will be using my M5 this time as I can't handle driving 7 hours non-stop for the run in my 458, which is why I want to improve brakes now on it.

I put ATE Super Blue Racing Brake Fluid in my E60 M5 and it was a night and day difference. I want to do it to my F10 M5 also, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I would like to see EBC start making some yellow stuff and some blue stuff pads for the F10 M5. I've written them asking when it is in their roadmap (they already do it for prior gen M5s). If I hear back, I'll share.

I know this car is heave and powerful, but I've been in M5's with a instructors driving on stock tires and brake pads around a track for 20 minutes (meaning they were hauling ass), and have NO ISSUES with fade due to brake management. You must be going WAY TOO FAST for the street to be getting fade repeatedly. .

Upgrading the fluid will no doubt be of help, however use of AP 600 limits your options for future bleeding as it is incompatible with conventional brake fluids. Plus the price/quart really jumps up. (I buy the AP551 in quantity for my sports racer)
See chart https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/gr...pID=BRAKEFLUID
