Rotors replaced

12,xxx service being done and I complained about a shimmy when braking from 55-45mph. Diagnosis: need front rotor replacement. Not in stock so have to keep my 128 for the wkd. No track days on this car. I think I saw a thread like this before but couldn't find it. Seems strange for a new car. Only times I've replaced rotors on my m5's before have been after track days.

I have 8000 miles and mine is shimming occasionally. No track time either.

Warping rotors isn't nearly as common as people think. Typically the cause of that shimmy is uneven pad deposits on the rotor, which exhibits the same behavior as warped rotors. However, if that's the cause then it should be possible to undo be driving with very light braking for a few days to a week. Light braking doesn't let the pads heat up to the point of transferring material to the rotor, instead they remain in "abrasive mode" and actually scrape pad deposits OFF of the rotor. Once that's done it would be advisable to bed in the pads again to lay down a new transfer layer though. StopTech's site has a great article about the myth of truly warped rotors.

Of course if BMW is giving you rotors on the house, why not? Just for future reference.

If vibration, these 'type' of rotors seem to have that issue.. from what I understand when I had them on my M3, it's uneven pad deposits exacerbated by the drilled rotor where material builds up.

Yes, vibration or slight shaking of the wheel upon braking but only from certain speeds. Ie 55-45mph for me. Higher or lower speeds feels normal.
Surprising BMW did not suggest a less aggressive option if it was possible but I am not complaining about new rotors, just that I can drive my car this wkd...
Should have those in stock in a major dealer?

Did you need new ones for the same reason? How many miles did you have at the time. Mine started @ 7-8k
