Sunroof

How much light does the sunroof let in?

had a few cars with sunroofs and the extra light is great..... (Especially the pan roofs on the tourings )
my current BMW doesn't have one and it feels sooooooo dark, especially with the MSport roof lining so made sure it was added to my new F30 order.

Can't find any interior picts to try and judge.

I've been debating getting a sunroof on my f30 order, but they're just so expensive, it's hard to justify the cost. Very nice though.

I is a lot of money but hopefully worth it.
It's kinda what begs the question to be honest, had 2 tourers with pan roofs and it is quality.
Appreciate the saloon only has a little bit of glass but would still like to think that it lets a good bit of light in??

Go for it. I'm sure the extra glass covers some 25% of the roof so it's bound to let a good amount in.

With current weather a sunroof is a lovely addition, my X5 has the pano roof which is a very pricey £1500 option, I bought the car used but not sure if I could justify the cost if buying new.

I've always loved a sunroof from my days driving a Triumph Dolomite Sprint fitted with Webasto folding sunroof. The sunroof was a favourite feature in my E39 touring, so when buying a new E91 the panoramic roof was a definite option, expensive but the icing on the cake.

With M-sport coffin like interiors, for me the light from the sunroof is a must have, or I'd find the car claustrophobic. So buying a used M-sport, a panoramic roof was an essential option and deal maker/breaker for my current car.

Makes all the difference with the anthracite roof liner. I never close the headliner as light is important, but have the roof open whenever I can. This past couple of weeks has been ideal, cruising along with the top open. But I'll open it up in winter as well, on a decent sunny day.

As the OP is also wanting light, I'm sure it is the right decision to have the sunroof added.

I think if you're after more light, it's a no brainer.

Personally a sunroof on a car would a reason for me to reject it, as I hate them with a passion - I had one car with a pano roof (an top-spec X-Trail that had it fitted as standard) and I kept the hatch cover closed at all times.. it's a personal thing as with anything else, some like the open airy feel, while a few, like myself, prefer the dark cocoon feel

Go for the Beige interior, darkness problem solved for free with a better looking car

I had the lemon/black interior with light head lining in my E91, and even with that specification the panoramic roof added a lot to the light levels.

I'd have loved the sunroof option but my car was already too expensive and something had to give. It's a pricey option, no doubt about that, but can imagine it's well worth it for the extra light and the wind in your hair on warm sunny days.

A question I've never got a straight answer to: what does it do to the car's weight? I would guess it increases but how much? Extra weight high up in the car is the worst place it can be.

I note that opinions differ on the adaptive suspension, but the majority seem to think it's a game changer (in a positive way!). Personally I cannot say, never having driven a 3 without. The weight of opinion on these boards was what persuaded me it was a must have.

It adds the weight high up which is not a good thing (why they have carbon fibre(ish) roofs on some recent M models).

Love my sunroof. It lets in quite a bit of light and you can really notice the difference. A lot of money but the wife has one on her car, and that's a godsend if your out and about in this nice weather.
Its also handy to raise it up when a little bit of a draught is required.
If it can be added in the budget then go for it!!

My previous E91 had pan roof and it was amazing - loved the amount of light it let in and feeling of space but as I'm getting a saloon this time, it will only be a standard size
I'm sure I won't regret it but its always nice to hear others opinions

Order is being signed off this week, fingers crossed it doesn't take too long to build cos I'm not very patient!

Garage List
I like sunroofs, all my cars have either been a convertible or have had a sunroof. Adds another dimension to the car both in terms of ventilation and light. It's nice to tilt the roof for a bit of extra air rather than to have the fans blowing. Crack one of the rear windows an inch as well and you get a nice gentle breeze inside the car without the noise of having a window open. Then on a hot day just open it up wide and enjoy the sun!

Long time lurker first time poster. Picked up an ex demo F30 330D earlier today and it came with a sunroof. Certainly lets light in but the opening is behind the driver's head so of more benefit to rear passengers.

I can't imagine not having it. I like the face that you can allow the root to vent air and leave the sun shade fully closed (not able to do this is my 2007 E90).

Good question and one that i have asked myself a few times too......
I dont need a touring, just wanted one at he time.
I wont lie, i liked the practible element of them but I fancied a change this time around but just in case..... have added folding rear seats to the spec just in case i need a little extra room for something.

If i'm honest, my only concern is the reduced access a saloon has although the only time i may find this would be an issue is carrying suit cases but if this was a major thing then everyone would be driving tourings surely?!
