Any OEM black wheels? Powdercoating?

I couldn't find any on this link:

http://zoouz.free.fr/wheels.htm

Do you just buy them stock and have them painted??

There are no black OEM wheels. If you want OEM wheels in black, just have it powdercoated. Should cost about $300-$400 for all 4 wheels. Gotta love black wheels, especially on black. Is that what your'e getting?

Well I'm getting the standard 330 sport wheels but am thinking about maybe the 199s. So I get them powder coated I guess. Is that too much black??

macrus, maybe too much black. Usually the cars I see with black wheels have a separated lip that you can leave unpowdercoated so there's at least some contrast between the spokes and the tires and so the whole car isn't completely black. Check out what I mean in the attached pic. Doesn't really seem like it's possible to do that with the 199's because the spokes go right into the outer lip of the wheel.

Yeah...I see what you mean....I'll go back to that link and see what else might work. Thanks for the pointers....that Porsche looks TNT!

Would these work? The outside rim could be left silver....yes?

Marcus, I think these would look nice powdercoated black. You could powdercoat the the spokes and the inside wheel lip and leave the outer lip silver for some contrast. Also, leaving the bolts silver will look nice.

How is powdercoat applied? Can they actually leave the little bolts silver (above pic) without smudging it all up? Is it a paintbrush or a spray? Clueless.

Yes they can leave the bolts silver. With true multipiece wheels (which I'm assuming the 179's are because they have bolts holding the centers to the outer lip), what the powdercoat will do is unscrew all the bolts and take just the center piece to be powdercoated. This will make sure that none of the outerlip is powdercoated by accident and of course the bolts will remain silver.

Powdercoating is neither paintbrushing nor spray. Powdercoating is exactly that, sticking paint powder to the wheel center and then heating it up in an oven so the powder melts/flows together to form a smooth, solid layer. They get the powder to stick evenly to the centers by using electrostatic charges. The powder is applied to the object using a special spray gun that gives the particles a negative electrical charge. The object being coated is grounded or given a positive charge, which makes the powder stick to the wheel center.
IMO, powdercoating is the only way to properly "paint" your wheels. It's durable and highly resistant to peeling, chipping, and fading. It can be done in almost any color, and with different levels of shininess ranging from a high gloss to a dull, flat finish.

Hope that helps explain the process

How much does this cost on average? And how do you find a place that does this well?

Lots of specialty wheel repair/finishing shops or tire shops can do powdercoating (or can send it out for powdercoating). Wheels America is one that comes to mind (link below), but there plenty of other places so ask and look around for the best reputation and prices.
