removing side skirts

So I scratched my side skirt some how it was an awful sound

. I took a look and it was all scratched up so I'm thinking of buffing it out as much as i can. Anyway I was going to just pull it off but I thought I would ask before I did something stupid and broke a clip, so what I'm asking is do I just pull it off or should I beware of something?
