Make your e9x sound like a Ferrari!
First off, this is NOT a DIY. Saw this article and thought it was pretty interesting...
A speaker in the muffler?! I want that v12 sound! Weld on some 4" tips and you're good to go! vrooom-vrooom! http://autos.yahoo.com/news/how-to-m...180747534.html (BTW, I like how they choose to use BMW as their example cars)

I read an article a while back that said it helps with pedestrian safety since a lot of modern cars are so quiet. Especially hybrids and electric ones, mostly this would be for Europe. As a cyclist, I can say it's scary to have a hybrid come up at a stop light because I don't hear anything and then they're right there next to me.
And this idea is somewhat silly, but it's not really that different than the new M5 and fake engine noise in the cabin. |

This is something I would do if I had a lot of extra money and it would be entirely for entertainment purposes. It would be even better if I could use a sound that is completely ridiculous or out of place, really as a comedy piece more than anything.
I would not do this though with the thought of seriously trying to make my car seem like something it's not. I don't like the idea of having a car SOUND faster than it really is. I admire their intent with this product though. There are people out there (like me) who really value the way a car sounds especially in how it contributes to the overall driving experience. I'm be curious to see which manufacturers end up installing this from the factory and on what models. Some already pump sound through the speakers in the car (BMW being one of them) so really this idea isn't too far-fetched.

Why try and make your car something it's not...
I think the BMW PE Exhaust/335is exhaust is a perfect fit for the performance (sure you could make the sound a bit more aggressive, but anything like adding supercar sounds just doesn't fit). It's like every time I hear some shitty car coming down the road sounding like a sports car or a fart can but takes 9 seconds to get to 60....

This is like my brothers FRS, we pulled the fake sound pipe coming into the cabin the first night. It sounds like a corolla on the outside and a beast on the inside, making the driver look like a retard mashin it everywhere. Fuck emissions. Buy true exhaust set ups

Isn't that basically the same thing that BMW does already with interior engine sound on some models, by playing fake engine sound through the speakers? Considering that the technology is intended as something factory-installed by the manufacturer, I won't be surprised to see it used by BMW in the near future (considering BMW's track record).
Here's a free idea to BMW and those French guys: use the speakers to augment the door sound as it closes. That's another area that matters a lot... And once we get speakers that are facing outside, the possobilities become endless. A sexy tire squeal every time the car goes through a turn would be nice, for one example...
