What is this for? 2011 E92 Coupe
I bought this car used, and a couple things were missing from the little tool kit, like that allen wrench...
But I'm wondering if something else is missing here... Under the trunk floor panel, is a place I assume they used to keep the spare or whatever. Obviously this has been modified because of the RFTs used now. But looking in there, is an unusual-shaped well, with three brass mounting points (red circles). What was in here? Or is it for some kind of accessory?

Kind of what I figured, but it looks like some kind of accessory is meant to be bolted down in there.

You're not missing anything. A few of those tools were missing from the factory to reduce production costs. They made quite a few cuts from the earlier models. Search. All years had rft and no spare.

I did and parts are missing - the previous owner must have them.

Won't need it for at least 5k miles, when my sunroof is scheduled to break.

2009+ e92's DID NOT come with the carpeted liner, call the dealer they will tell you that they cant find that part in the catalogue to match your vin HOWEVER you can buy one from an 2007-2008 e92 and it will fit, just looks a lot nicer. Good place to store a few things. I will post pictures later of what mine looks like.

But nevertheless, it looks like it was designed to hold something very specific. What specifically, is what I am curious to know. Those three screw locations lead me to believe it was something heavy that could move around during driving.

Well, here's my answer! It's for the compressor for the "Origami" top (I assume this means convertibles)... Google...
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...k+in+the+trunk I just thought of another use for it - fill it with ice and use it as a cooler for tail-gating!

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=799166 here's the insert if you want to go ahead and carry the mobility kit (which you'll also have to source as well) http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...47&hg=51&fg=65 pretty sure that's no. 17 in the diagram or 51718040078 same part number coupe and sedan; pre-LCI and LCI. I thought that at one point in time I had confirmed that 335i and M3 shared a trunk floor, but I'll be damned if I can find that part in realoem right now to confirm.
