F32 335i vs E92 N54 335i performance

How do the two compare performance wise? My thoughts are:

1. F32 335i is slightly faster due to 8-speed (if comparing auto) and less weight.
2. Handles better due to improved suspensions and less weight.
3. Less tune-able compared to a N54 335i.

Would everyone agree?

The engine is no different from the N55 engines of the previous generation correct? No tweaks at all?

I think a lot of people (myself included) hate the feel of the steering on the F3x. So better handling is kind of subjective

"The 328i’s overall ride quality prompted praise, but one of our staff’s dedicated 3-series supporters noted a rise in harshness and rattles relative to the E90. That critic also felt that the new car compared poorly to its immediate predecessor in steering precision and feedback. (BMW switched from hydraulic to electric power-steering assist in the 2012 3-series.) After owning five 3-series over a lengthy period, this staff member expects to wait for improvements before considering a sixth for his garage. Other editors invoked the dreaded ”clomp” denigration describing the suspension‘s reaction to bad Michigan roads. In contrast to BMW’s past sweet-cream reputation for driveline smoothness, reports of a high-speed vibration somewhere in the powertrain entered the logbook."

Well driving feel is subjective. I guess by handle better, I mean it would have better numbers in terms of cornering speed and theoretically might be a bit faster around a track than the previous generation? I'm guessing BMW wouldn't allow a new model to under-perform against an older model around a track.

Isn't the F3x heavier overall than the e9x?

This is a company that has spec'd run flats for their cars, imo one of the most critical components to the vehicle's feel and cornering ability. So no i don't believe they're concerned about road feel or track performance as much as saving weight and cheaping out on having a spare tire...

Also from Car and Driver:

" In summary, the most significant change from the E90 to the F30 results from the switch to electric power-steering assist, which diminishes feel. Body roll in the two cars is identical, but the use of rear-suspension understeer instead of larger tires in back may be why the new 328i feels less agile turning into corners. All of it adds up to a softer, tamer 3-series that's more about luxury than fun. "

+2 but I'm sure it would be fine once you adjust to it.

The difference between the E90 and the F30 is so small that it will come down to packages and options. For all intents and purposes, the weight is exactly the same.

Yeah I'm a little hesitant about that statement too. Supposedly the F32 handles better than the F30 though but we'll let time tell.

Yeah, I ended up looking up the numbers. The F30 335i weights like 50 lbs less than the e90 335i. Pretty negligible.

Good link. Here's another that explains the difference in feel between the e90 and f30:

http://blog.caranddriver.com/a-tale-...-so-different/

"In summary, the most significant change from the E90 to the F30 results from the switch to electric power-steering assist, which diminishes feel. This.

I don't think anything else needs to be said about the handling.
