M4, Am I reading this right?
So I read the home page article on the site and it says the M4 will be a 3.0 with two small turbos running 18.9lbs of boost. And that's making 425/369
So if its the same size as the N54 and again two small turbos, how is this M4 supposed to surpass the power numbers that we can get from our N54s? I was hoping for atleast a 3.3TT that way we could see maybe close to 575rwhp with FBO and tuning.

Pretty sure they focused more on weight savings this go around. But yeah i was kinda wondering the same thing before the specs were released.

did they say the were the *same* turbos as the N54? a slight difference in turbo size/design can actually make a pretty good difference. And they did say the redline was higher, so the additional rpms would account for some of that gain.
what does the typical N54 make with 19 pounds of boost? |

they shed weight by cheaping out on the interior and it seems like the engine may be re inforced(assumingly) in order for a similar engine as that of an N54 to handle 18lbs of boost on a daily base

If our cars are designed to run 8psi and this new M4 is designed to run 18.9psi, maybe they can be tuned to run another 10psi such as our cars?

Hey guyths, the n54 has forged internals. This new m4 be having forged internals, and a 3.0 twin turbo set up. Obviously, the new m4 just has the awesome n54. I'm so glad I got my n54 with forged internals.

they've made other modifications to the engine hardware too, it's not just a tune.
but I also sort of wished they would bring back the 3.2 and add some turbos

theres ALWAYS more to an "M3" (well M4 in this case) than just pure power output. always. from little details to big noticeable details.

The turbos will have to flow more to have performance past 7000rpms to the 7500 limiter. These are definitely not the same "exact" turbos. Stock twins will not be suitable for 7500rpms and 19+ boost pressure. This is not a tuned n54 essentially IMO.

There is a serious lack of insight on this thread. Look at the n54 vs. the Infiniti G37 engine. N54 is smaller, Less HP...the beauty of the N54 is in the power delivery. The M3/4 S55 engine will surely deliver its power in a more useable way than an N54 with a tune. More important than the engine of course is the chassis, suspension, brakes, gearbox. So, yeah if your goal its to beat an M4 in a straight line, a tuned 335 will win...but if i tune a Honda civic i can easily get quicker straight line times than a tuned 335. For fun to drive and on the track, I'm sure the M4 will dominate any 335.

There is an air to water intercooler as well as many other changes I am sure. I am sure there will be plenty left on the table to tune these cars.

may have small turbos, but it didn't say as small as the N54. Plus, tuning for a climbing power curve instead of the widest, flattest torque curves changes everything. Even a slightly larger turbo wheel that can flow to redline is what does it. Our turbine wheels cant flow enough past 5500, which is why every dyno curve falls off past that and why upgraded (bigger) turbos pull longer.
