Ticking Noise From Engine Bay - Car completely off

I had recently purchased a 2011 BMW 328i, it is a CPO car.

I have noticed a ticking noise when the car is completely off with the keys removed. Has anyone experienced this? I will take it into the dealership this Saturday but just want to have an idea of what it could be.

I have searched the forum but all the threads I have found is about ticking when the car is running or doing something.

Appreciate any insight I can get.

Can u show us a video? Our cars make different noises when off. So we would need to hear it.

I have the same noise on my 335xi. After shutting the car off it makes a few "tick tick tick" noises, they don't happen all the time though. It sounds like someone is lightly tapping the motor. Does your car do it all the time?

Keep us updated with what it is!

Are you talking about the noise that the oil is making as it drips down to the pan?

my car sounds like a tranformer when its off, scares old people and amuses little children. I am personally waiting on the day i come out to go to work and it transforms..

Here is how mine sounded, turned car off and got out, from under the hood.

*tap tap-----tap---------tap--tap-tap* it stayed for a few seconds. The tap is like someone tapping the desk or kitchen counter with a pencil or a pen.

Yeah that's pretty much what hot oil sounds like as it drips back down to the pan.

Most likely it's your radiator fan running. It's normal for it to run when the car is shut off and it was pushed hard on a hot day.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah when I pull into the garage after some spirited driving it sounds like a plane just shut off. Engine is so hot that it makes the garage nice and toasty within 5 minutes.

I know that noise haha, I think that comes from the rear of the car and it sounds more metallic.

Tic tic noise is maybe normal thermal contraction of métal parts.

Quick update.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I listened to the ticking more closely again and it does sound like hot metal ticking just like some of you have suggested.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Mine made this noise. It's certainly not exhaughst pipe cooling. Sounded more like an electric fuel pump running momentarily.

I thought it had to do with the key being too close to the car or something? Comfort access related perhaps?

I agree with others in this thread. The tapping/ticking is just various bits of the car cooling off and oil dripping in to the pan.

I can't remember where I read this, but I thought I read that the car will turn certain things on as you get close to it if you have the key in your pocket and you have the Comfort Access package installed on your car.

Your car is happy to see you and excited about going for a drive, that's all.

I figured it was comfort access related... Just getting everything primed and ready to start up.
