Murdered on power?...more like murdered on traction on a very damp road with wet leaves... seriously what were they thinking even bothering with a drag race in such conditions....

Thanks for the article. I'd take the M5 before the RS7 or M6GC. With the pricing structure it's a relative bargain.

LOL was about to post the same thing... of course the AWD would shine in this scenario.

Eeeehhhh, because damp roads with wet leaves happens in real life... This seems to be the problem the M5/M6 have met in comparison tests lately. The competition from MB and Audi has AWD and isn't affected as bad as the M on wet roads. And in real life, it's not like you can ask the wet road to disappear.

But for a car that's more fun to drive, the M would be my choice

And you would "race" in those conditions??? I have had (and still have) AWD performance cars and still don't push it when it is wet out...let alone with wet leaves.... it is just plain stupid and the laws of physics will catch up to you... whether you have 4matic, xdrive or quattro....

So what exactly was the point of the video? Given the same conditions, there isn't a RWD high performance car that would have been able to hang with the RS7 (McLaren MP4-12C, 997 GT2R etc)....

The M6 GC won the test because it was the most fun and engaging car.

If you don't see the point of the video, and how the RS7 accelerates better in the wet, then what is the point of AWD anyway???

AWD transformed rallying and provides safety margins and superior acceleration in slippery conditions. I'm not talking racing, but the point of a high performance car is to be able to access that power. Many articles have pinpointed the lack of traction as a achilles heel of the M5/M6.

To me, the choice is still clear in favour of the M. But when the competition has AWD, we should expect comparisons that also are in conditions that aren't allways favourable for the RWD M (without saying "what's the point")

I don't disagree with your points....but the acceleration "test" should have been left out of the video and they should have merely stated "there was no point to putting the two cars side by side in a drag race as the wet conditions would have clearly beneffitted the AWD RS7. Hopefully we can get our hands on the two cars again for drag race in dry/safe conditions."

Yes, it is quite a foregone conclusion and a rather meaningless drag "race" in those conditions. Agree on that

[but we'd go for the M6 Gran Coupe - it looks great, sounds fantastic and most importantly it's more fun to drive than the Audi RS7.]

Remarkable, especially because this is a non CP M6.

Apart from Standing start straight line performance, M6 wins on drive and Handling/comfort and looks, but many will just look at those "straight line figures", thats why I posted the Vid.
M5 for me................................ for a lot less money too.

Lack of traction is a much bigger problem for this generation of M5/M6 due to the increase in horse power and torque, especially the latter. M has come to a point where they can no longer stay rear wheel drive unless they reduce power, which would be akin to marketing suicide. I am hoping M would put in lots of resources for future generation cars to make an awesome AWD drivetrain that puts quattro to shame. All that without serious weight penalty and loss of steering feel.

Just wondering if a set of 325 (or above) at the rear would help with traction? Has anyone done that on their M5/M6?
