Exclamation Is the E90 that fragile?

I was driving through the car wash parking lot today very slowly while looking for a slot and then BAM! For some strange reason the lot has a random drop off curb about 4-5 inches high that I just happened to run off. I cursed myself and went on to another car wash, planning to check the damage when I got there. No cosmetic damage, but something else happened. The engine is making a strange humming noise and noticeable vibration. After washing the car it was still making the noise and it makes me really uncomfortable. Also, it sorta feels like the transmission is in a lower gear than it should be. It only hums when in drive; it sounds fine idling in park. I have to make a ~90 mile trip Friday and I don't want to damage it any more than it may be now.

I didn't imagine such a small curb would do this... My luck I hit that one tiny vulnerable spot in the underbody.

Does anyone have any ideas about what it may be? It would be greatly appreciated!

Better go to dealership and have them check out!

I did it once when I dropped my Volvo S40 with Eibach springs and thru car wash.....it scrap the undercarriage and bent 3/4 rims....
The car was making some sort of flapping noice.....scared the shit outta me!

If I were you I'd go get it checked out. Depending on how you came off the curb (I assume it was the front right of the car that you came off?) you may well have knocked he alignment out, or smacked the sump guard under the engine. If it only vibrates when it's in drive, it's most likely to be one of the metal guards rattling loose against the engine mounts when the engine is under load (as it is when you're in Drive). Get it checked, for your own peace of mind. Do you really want to do a 90 mile trip not knowing if it's ok?

Took it to be serviced today... Apparently an exhaust mount was bent and making contact with the pipes causing noise. They bent it back and a new mount is on order!

Damn, with a six foot drop you would have thought they would have put up a guardrail or something.

Ive hit the speed bumps in rental cars at border crossing between McAllen and Reynosa at that speed. Thank god I had my safety belt on or I would have gone through the roof. Those speed bumps are enormous and the guards were none too pleased. But they are hard to see in the rain.

a 4-5 inch drop is pretty dramatic regardless of if it's an E90 or not. Best of luck to you getting the car checked out though.
