M3 / M4 Akrapovic exhaust and power delivery comments - Auto Bild Sportscars magazine

According to an article in the last edition of Auto Bild Sportscars (will scan it and upload it later when I have access to a scanner) there are some interesting new info (can't vouch for it's accuracy).
  • The exhaust was co developed with Akrapovic (EDIT: On photos it can bee seen as being manufactured by Eberspächer, but the article mentioned developed not manufactured)
  • The seating position is lower than in the E9x and where it should have been in that car

Passenger ride with Spengler:
Quote:
The engine feels more agile and lively than the S63.

Q:What is so special with this engine?
A: Above all it's response! No turbolag, no drop off in power, no drop off in power when changing up at high RPMs!

The sound at idle is a low burble, from 5500rpm a throaty and rumbling growl takes over - the Lion and the Bear in duet and with a symphony of a few hundred bumblebees in the background.
Passenger ride with Biermann on the Autobahn:

Quote:
At exactly 100km/h in 7th, he accelerates with full throttle from just under 1800rpm.

From that rpm, the engine grabs deep into it's torque reserves and flings the car into a "step free" (ansatzlos) acceleration. The power rises as linear as a "silver rocket" (an analogy in German for a very linear increase in acceleration). Road conditions permitting, it takes you to the speed limiter in a smooth and calm manner (still talking about being in 7th). Absolutely superior!!!
EDIT: Note all of this is passenger ride observations and that Auto Bild managed to persuade Biermann to take them for an extra ride on the Autobahn. The article portrays a enthusiastic and thrilling experience.

Nice to hear about the seat height, one of my gripes with the E90.

Very encouraging comments. Akra must have cringed being tasked to design that muffler, it ain't really up to their own standard of aesthetics...

Lol to Eberspacher, they made the petrol heater in my 1973 Beetle. At the time "Eberspacher" pretty much equalled a petrol heater around where I grew up. It's funny because at least in my circles it was a word we used for many jokes.

Yes, the article just after the M3/M4 is about Akrapovic and how much pride they take in the design and appearance of their products... But also on how they focus on the sound, weight and power. My Guess is that they were involved in the sound and internal design rather than manufacturing.

I never knew Eberspächer made exhausts myself, and I also think of engine heaters when I hear Eberspächer or Webasto

Seems like they make exhausts for Porsche as well:
