Question Run Flats.....?

I ask with some dread, but should I just assume BMW plans to subject us to run flats on the F8X?

Anyone know?

(They are so committed as a brand....so wrongly, wrongly, wrongly committed.....)

Why would you assume that? Not typically found on Ms, and this car will be no different. Just MMobility system (compressor and sealant), I'm sure.

No.

Michelin PSS are not runflats. You get that useless can of gunk and a compressor instead (just never use it, call a towing).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you only get Michelin super sports with the 19 inch upgraded wheels package.

The 18" should also be coming with high performance summer tires such as the PSS. At least it was the case with the E46 and E9X M3s.

As a friend of mine is fond of saying: "You know what happens when you assume? Yeah. You look like a f$#!ng a#$hole."

Guess I have taken my turn....

Anyway, all good news.

Thanks all.

no way. Run flats defeat the purpose of the car. We will get the expensive fix a flat and the plastic inflata-pump again I'm sure to prevent the weight and space of a spare.

While I don't like runflats, doesn't the Stingray come with them, and that's certainly a performance car?

really?? I'd be shocked I hated them on my 328i e92 back in the day, so rough and hard, also very high maintenance. I had to replace 3 or 4 of them because the buckled on the side wall.

I just looked it up and Greg is correct. WOW I wonder if their feel improved. I had Michelin run flats in 2007 through 2009 and they were terrible

Doubt it. A year or so ago I was running summer RFTs on my 328xi (Pirellis) and they were horrible. Nothing but trouble.

Last summer switched back to normal rubber - 1000 times better.

I wonder what other tyres will be used on the new M3/4 - I had two E9x M3s and both came with the Continentals - they were great tyres. Never drove an M3 with the michelins

Well, it can't get any better than PSS. By far the best street performance tire there is.

Sidewall bubbles have nothing to do with being a runflat or not. I've had 2 Continetals, 2 Michelin, and a Goodyear all bubble, and they were all non runflat. A big enough pothole will destroy any low profile tire.

Yep the Stingray comes with Run Flat PSS! Just so that people know these things exist: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....=Z51%20Package

Wouldn't be surprised if the F8Xs got those too.

+1. Now way. They'll keep those for the X5, etc.

Why do you guys care so much?

When I owned a C6 with runflats, it wasn't the end of the world.

I don't believe there are run flats on any M car and I suspect there will not be until run flats are as good as conventional tires. In fact BMW even dumped run flats for the M235i, not sure if that means run flats are going to be phased out in other models but you won't likely see a true M car with them

But specifically, what tires were they and what did you hate about them?

Just saying you hate runflats is like saying you hate Goodyear tires. There are many varieties and they're probably quite different.
