Anyone with the Touch Nav controller feeling brave?

Does anyone have a recent F30 or F31 with Pro Navigation and the new Touch Controller?

I've retrofitted the Pro Nav to my car and everything is working apart from the touch input. I need a generous sole to pry up the console piece where the Touch Controller is housed and take photos of what is connected underneath. It is very easy to do and will cause no damage to your car.

My understanding is there should be a special gesture controller fitted underneath the iDrive controller and I need to understand what its part number is and how it is connected.

I would be very grateful if anyone could help with this. I could provide you with an E-Sys coding cable in payment.

By the look on the parts catalog below the extra module is only on China, Japan & Korean cars. I guess to deal with their hundreds of symbols instead of letters! Are you sure you've done all the relevant coding to get the controller to work?

Thanks Teaston

No, I don't think that is the case. If you look on RealOEM.com you will see a part number of 6582-9299305 for option 4 for European and US cars.

There doesn't appear to be any coding options for the ZBE (Touch controller). There is no CAFD file so no settings for it (which is odd).

The controller is working fine for me, but the touch pad does nothing.

That part no. is not on the Realoem page that I'm looking at:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...04&hg=65&fg=50

A google search of that part no. seems to indicate it's a version of the controller itself?

You definitely need to code the touch controller on the 6 series, so I would strongly imagine you do on 3 series too. See this thread on 6post, also could be worth asking him what was included in the retrofit kit:

Thanks. That was probably required on the 6er since the car may not have come with a kcan2 controller originally. Though I must admit I expected coding to be required. However the ZBE_TOUCH is enabled on the NBT and the ZBR does not support FDL coding.

Also if you look at this page you will see the additional touch module list as 04. If you scroll down until you find 04 you will see there is a part listed with the number above for ECE cars (right at the very bottom).

Is there a difference in NBT head units between the pre June version and the later ones (standard touchpad controller)?

i.e. could a pre June NBT be upgraded to touchpad?

I'm not really bothered with it actually working, I just like the new knob, as we know when it comes to knobs......size matters

I can't get on with the touchpad, and as for the size, much prefer the smaller one on the Z4!

I would love to have the patience to faff around retro-fitting bits and pieces!

As long as you don't fiddle with it too much in the car or it's liable to fall off when you need it most, then you will have a mess all over the car.

I'll swap a small knob for a big one

On a serious note, I do like the black ceramic versions (gear lever and idrive knob), but how much???

No. My NBT is December 2012 and it still supports the K-CAN2 protocol that came in 07/2013 with the new NBT. The comms between all these things is a different ECU which already has all the different bus types supported.

This is the cable I will give to anyone that can check this for me. I had them made up myself after I had a bad experience with a cable from eBay that only works one time in five (grrr):

I can't say I've really used the touch knob. I prefer to just drive the car rather than playing with all it's knobs.

Just popped out to have a look, here's what I found - it's all one unit with no box appearing anywhere I can see....

I'll have a look later when I get the chance, they don't sound familiar however unless I had needed to code them I guess they wouldn't.

I have a cable I made up myself, so thanks for the offer but don't worry as mine works fine.

You are a star Mark. Really appreciate your help here.

Can you also check if your ZBE3 is programmable (ie has an associated CAFD).

Thanks.

No problem, although I won't be able to physically check the car tonight as I'm home late with an early start tomorrow.

Having checked the backup files on my laptop, I do have both TBX and TCB ECUs and the associated CAFD to ZBE3 seems to be CAFD_00011B3_001_002_011. If you drop me a PM with your email link I will forward a copy of my backup FA, SVT and CAFD files for you to compare.

Incidentally, I don't know what part of the UK you are in but if it works I will happily meet up to compare settings directly if that helps.

Thanks Mark PM Sent.

It's not as bad as that Yorky. You have the right to have anyone you like work on the car, including yourself. It only voids the warranty if you break something and they can prove it was your action that broke it. 30 years ago most people did the maintenance of their own cars.

Thanks for that Mark, it told me what I needed to know.

Now managed to get the CAFD associated with the Touch Controller so it is now possible for me to code it.

I still need the TBX module which does the gesture recognition but I've managed to find the correct part number for that. I called my local BMW dealer and just asked for the part. Only costs £50 and comes from Germany so I should have it in a week
