I'm stupid, please help~~
Um ........ I used Klasse AIO on my windshield since it said on the bottle that the product can be used on glass. But it started raining today and my wiper blades are shuddering as they wipe across the windshield and makes horrible scraping noises. I tried the windshield washing fluid but it didn't work for more than 30 seconds.
What do I do?!?! Help ~~~~ |

Hmm, I remember havind read a thread on this topic with some good solutions. Try searching for it.
Waxing the windshield definitely causes the wipers to scrape. |

Typically wax should not come into contact with rubber (windshield wipers, window and door seals, etc). I think it has something to do with the petroleum distillates (oils) in the wax. These chemicals break down rubber over time and make them weak. Search for those other threads to find a way to remove the wax from your windshield, then replace those wipers.

I used Rain-X years ago. It's great if you wan't you drive without using your wipers at all in the rain - but you have to keep applying the stuff every few days. If the window does get dirty, or you stop putting the stuff on, the wipers stick and chatter something horrible. I wish I never used the stuff. I did try using it on the glass in the shower, and it helps keep it clean - but never again will I used it on the car.
Rain-X may have been improved since then, but I doubt it. I figure that the wipers have to let a little water get underneath to keep it lubricated enough to not squeak. A dry window usually squeaks, or if there's wax that keeps the water from sheeting (the opposite of beading). A tiny bit of dirt helps. So I guess it's a trade-off of getting all the water off, and leaving some behind. Hopefully the water that gets left behind evaporates quickly. My .02.

Been using Rain X for a few years now, works great. Actually, it lasts for well over a month, sometimes several depending on time of year. Of course, the more you use the wipers and detergents the faster it will wear off.

best sugegstion now after reading the post would be to just aio the back and side windows.
as for the front, clean as usual and follow up with some 1:1 dilluted alcohal/water. it should remove all the aio. as for the wipers, just to start from new, u may wanna pretreat with some megs apc and then start u're regular wash. this should clean them very well and give u some better results. im sad to here aio didnt work for you... |

You could always use some 3M Adhesive remover on the windshield. Apply it to a paper towel, wipe down the windshield, dry with another towel, the proceed with cleaning the windshield with some sort of glass cleaner.

You can use Klasse AIO on the windows, but not on the windshield.
Try claying your windshield or try some glass polish.

I grabbed some paper towel, dishwashing sponge and Dawn then went scrubbing. It actually took a couple of times to really get rid of the AIO, paper towel didn't even work that good so I just used the sponge, took a lot of hard scrubbing but I managed to finish the job, the wipers are really quiet now when used.
BUT, I managed to scratch my windshield through all that scrubbing, didn't notice till this afternoon when the setting sun was reflecting off of the glass at an angle. Good thing it's just glass but I'm still pretty sad, what do you guys recommend I use to wash glass with? I'm thinking of giving the entire windshield a good wash and some glass polish (don't know what kind?) so I'll feel better. Moral of the story: Kids, DON'T EVER F***ING WAX YOUR WINDSHIELD! |

Clay bar does not leave any residue behind. If it's leaving residue behind than you're definitely doing something wrong.

i still cant believe a lot of u guys are having trouble with this and are blaming it on waxing a windshield.
and just to clarify, aio is a strong chemical cleaner with protective acrylic properties (sealant) not wax. rainx is the same thing. not sure about u guys, but when i purchased my e90 330i it had hardwater stains all over the windshield, back glass and sunroof. i cleaned it all up with some clay, water/vinger, and aio. left my windshield sparkling and beading water very nice. also made my wipers work BETTER as they easily lifted and swept water off the windshield much easier. its like blaming a wax for leaving a hazy residue, not lasting a good while, or not looking like u thought it was, when in reality it was the fact the u didnt do proper prep on the paint first. car detailing, including glass, is about process and patience and i doubt grabing and applicator and rubbing some aio in a circle over the windshield was gonna make it perfect... as an example: would u guyz use zaino without preping the finsh first? no, why? because sal zaino said so. well toher than the fact that he says so, its because polymer sealants need a clean surface to bond. sal zaino uses dawn (even tho i think dawn should be left in the kitchen and isnt strong enough to remove acrylic selants as well as a simple paint cleaner polish would) because of its high alkaline properties that disolve waxes. leaving a clean slate. well same with glass. same with dressing tires, same with conditioning leather, same with everything when it comes to automotive detailing. its all about prep, and without that u got nothing. sorry for the rant guys, i know im fairly new to posting information on the boards here, its just i feel, some are taking a wrong road in the direction to detailing and making their rides nice. |

Here is what I do: Wash car, I use a Separate bucket soap and mitt for wheels Replace soap and clean mitt Cut medium compound (Blue) clay into 5 pieces Roll them into balls and flatten like a hamburger Starting with the roof, apply soapy water and rub down the panel with clay. Repeat for the rest of the car. Wash all soap off car and dry with an absorber towel Buff all panels with a clear coat compound Remove compound with micro fiber towel Buff all panels with a polish Remove polish with a micro fiber towel Buff all panels with a sealant Remove sealant residue with micro fiber towel Follow with a wax if I have the energy. I don’t consider my-self to be an expert at this, just through my experience a very small amount of residue was left over in certain spots, probably not noticeable to most people. I was assisted through a professional shop for all my detailing needs not Kragen Auto Parts. |
